Authorities suspend search for East Bay woman buried by Fort Funston landslide

FORT FUNSTON — Authorities suspended search efforts Friday for 22-year-old Kyra Sunshine Scarlet, who was buried in a landslide at Fort Funston Feb. 22.

Scarlet was walking her dog with a friend along a sandy cliff when the earth collapsed, burying both women in sand and dirt. Her friend and dog were both rescued, but Scarlet was never found.

“The recovery has ended after exhausting all possible actions and the high probability that the woman was taken out to sea by high tide,” according to a press release from the National Park Service.
