I actually don't fish enough to need to replace my lines every year. No abrasian. No coarse spots except where the leaders are. That's handled with a little cutting at that tip.

Will setting the drag really help reduce cuts on the 4-lb lines?

Are you replacing your lines annually ???
They break down over time
Also, set your drag on your reel
And don’t force it

I catch plenty of fish on the 4lb
Plus it just feel better using a light set up

You should still replace your lines annually
If you fish alot

Since you have many poles
And fish less on each
I say every 2-3 years

Wear and tear
You know
Stuff breaks over time
You don’t want your lines breaking
While reeling in a big one

Also setting the drag helps
If the fish is big and pulling hard
It is best to let the fish drag
Otherwise your lines might break

Here a video explaining better on drag
If you set everything right
You can catch any big fish on small pound lines

The key point is to be patience And keep fighting
If the fish is fighting hard and pulling hard

Just let him drag out

Very nice. But some times I want to drag the fish out with it parting the water on its way out. I don't want to fight too much. It might drag too far away.
