Game of Thrones: Season 8
« on: April 22, 2019, 01:54:57 PM »
Do anyone here agree that HBO rushed the end of GOT into season 7 and season 8? It took six seasons for Daenarys to build her army and only two seasons to claim the throne. It doesn't seem just.

OMG YES I agree.

Also, excuse my rant but what the fucking hell does D&D think they're doing?? Making Dany a mad queen?? After having survived so much shit all her life?? After freeing slaves and treating the innocent and weak with compassion and mercy??? If I didn't know any better I'd say that they're doing this deliberately as a way of justifying her probable death in the last episode. I've seen this happen in books and movies all the time. When a character has been popular and beloved but for whatever reason the author wants to kill them off, they will criminalize them in some way to make the audience not feel guilty about their eventual removal or death. It. Happens. So. Much. In. Fiction. The author doesn't want to feel bad about getting rid of a character so they intentionally make them become a bad guy. It's a really shitty method of writing and a terrible way of turning a complex person into a one faceted villain.

they werent too happy when the script got leak a couple of years so i think the script got rewritten for season 8 thats why it took them 2 years to finish it

I guess im one of the very few people whos not mad that dany is the mad queen, with the loss of her 2 best friend, her finding out jon snow is the nephew and not the lover, cersei not showing mercy, jon snow not keeping the secret a secret  so its going to drive her mad

I disagree with that assessment. Sure, Dany has been through a lot but not enough to justify the massacre of King's Landing and incinerating thousands of innocent people. You know who else has gone through a lot of bad stuff Almost everyone else! Take, for example, Sansa. She was basically taken hostage and married off to someone she didn't want--just like Dany. Her family was murdered by her enemies--just like Dany. She was raped, beaten, tortured, betrayed, lied to--just like Dany. They both have gone through so much shit. But it still doesn't justify going mad. So the writers are making it about the bad blood of the Targaryens and how Dany is slowly slipping into madness.

I'm not mad that she's now the Mad Queen. I just think it's a disservice to the growth of her character and frankly, it's bad writing.

So did anyone watch the last episode? I'm dying to discuss it with someone. I guess I'll just post my thoughts first.

Spoilers ahead.

Soooooo wow. Wow. My heart is so confused. All the anger that I felt last week has dissipated in a cloud of sorrow. I didn't realize how much I loved Dany until I saw the last light leave her eyes. Yes, I was disappointed in her decision to sack King's Landing, and yes, I felt she has become the very tyrant she was trying to overthrow. But I still loved her. Remember in Season 1 when she was still a young, innocent girl caught up in the political machinations of wealthy, powerful men? Remember that first shot of her when you saw the vulnerability in her face? That was the face that we saw when she died. There she was, the vulnerable Dany, the merciful Dany, the Dany still untouched by bloodshed and violence and cruelty.

Her death was inevitable but it still filled me with sorrow.

I had heard theories that Bran might be made king but I didn't take them seriously because he didn't even want to be lord of Winterfell. Whyyyy would he allow them to vote him king?? Well I guess that's that. I hope his new position will force him to come back to the present instead of living in the past.

This last episode left me reeling. I'm.... not quite sure if I hate it or love it. It's a bit in the middle. One thing's for sure though. It's one hell of a show.

WTF WAS THE POINT OF JON SNOW BE A TARGARYEN, IT WENT NO WHERE WITH IT IN THE END SHOULD OF JUST KEPT IT AS NED STARK BASTARD SON

WAT WAS THE POINT OF HAVING ARYA IN THE LAST 2 EPISODES WHEN SHE DID JACK CRAP SHE SHOULD OF JUST STAY IN WINTERFELL LIKE HER SISTER

not the best strong ending but all good things must come to a end

You guys!!!  You ruined it for me!!!  I haven't watched season 8 because I hate waiting for the next episodes... so I was just going to wait to binge watch the whole thing in one go!

Anyway, so you say that Dany was made into a mad queen... in that case, I agree with you, Asharia... Dany was portrayed to be a strong bad-ass, yet, at the same time she was shown to have mercy and a sense of justice for the innocent (she gave many their freedom!).  For her to incinerate thousands of innocent people seems unlike her nature... the only explanations for her turning mad may be because 1) she can't have Jon Snow as her lover as azn-guy already stated (that can drive some people crazy--to not be able to have someone they want to have as a lover!), and 2) the fact that although she was a tough and a bad-ass queen... she was really a vulnerable person who needed a lot of strategic and political guidance from others (she didn't always rely on her own instincts as far as her political strategies went)... so, it makes sense, a little, that she is human after all and after everything that she went through... she became mad.  But, it still sucks... wish she could have remained a strong bad-ass who could easily overcome anything and sit on the throne as a just and awesome queen...  I'm sad to hear that she died!  But I know I'll still enjoy season 8 when I find time to binge it!   ;D

GOT season 8 was weak!!!

-the night king and his arm, weak..he can raise the dead but gets kill by a needle
-Jon snow truly "knows nothing" in this season and is weak, all that character build up and didn't even get to fight the night king nor become a king.
-cersi had the best death, she died in the arms of her lover/brother...no pain with all the gain!
-an imp (midget) and a handicapped boy became two of the most powerful people of westoros.
-dany killed before even getting laid..what a waste!
-drogon an animal that is far more wiser than all the kings and queens combined, melts the throne of which was the cause of all the fighting.

everything was rushed...lames t ending...all these years of faithful following comes crashing down.

Cyber security in this country is crazy stupid so I have to VPN my location to another country just so I can watch GOT illegally... (even my favorite porn site is blocked! I never thought I had to worked so hard for free porn hah) so I haven't seen season 8 yet. I think I'm doing a good job not reading spoilers....

--will update my thoughts when I'm not too lazy to vpn my location for the show lol

The first half of the season is pretty cool. It kind of flops after that but oh well, it is what it is.

Ok... so I vpn and binged. Here's my rant..
I always felt her character was a bit of a balancing act trying to be both mother and politician. In the end, I believed her hubris got the best of her. I was secretly hoping for some gruesome death but I suppose this just goes to show we don't always get the death others think we deserve. Lazy writing or small poetic justice? Who knows...

Yes! I'm more inclined to believe it if Dany was slowly progressing into a mad queen given her story but to do a complete 180 decimating an entire city... c'mon?
A most anticlimactic death.

Overall, I wish the battle with the white walkers was the ending. That was, at least for me, a bit cathartic. I don't need to know the aftermath. I just need to know alls been reset to a clean slate --human or otherwise. Honestly, half the time I thought I was watching The Return of the King on some alternate universe and I was waiting for Gandolf to appear.

I felt the same too! After the battle with the Night King, I felt like we could've just ended there and I would have been fine with it. The main reason I kept watching was because I already paid for the month of HBO.  ;D

Oh Ash! You don't have to pay for anything... I can show you how haha But anyway, speaking of the Night King... while watching it I thought something was different so I googled and, behold, the original actor was replaced by Vladimir! No wonder I thought this Night King was a little hotter.. I guess it's the smoldering eyes.. (i know i have horrible taste in men) haha

hehe you're so funny. He is a hottie, isn't he?  ;)
