Anyone can learn to fish. But not everyone wants to. They don’t have to and it’s not their passion. You can fish a few times and you will get the hang of it.

I admit I have no skills when it comes to fishing...I just rely on luck with fish.  Sometimes lucky I didn't get bitten by that 5+ feet alligator gar...cuz they aren't supposed to be in MN.  Lucky I didn't lose my life when I as a kid to a Musky that had a head as big as my own when I was kid playing on river bank on sand bar next to very deep water.  My dad thought I was making a lot of water splashing and scaring fish away...right.. .monster/dragon almost stole me away.

Give them a break, you said it yourself that fishing is hard. They're just beginners wanting to pick up some pointers from a pro fisherman. Be a good sportsman and help teach them how to fish properly. Perhaps cast a couple times using their pole so they will have a third person view of how to cast it properly.

Seriously though, I'm not a huge fan of fishing, so whenever I go fishing with the family, I usually just using one of their fishing poles and often ending up hooking on worms or minnows.
