Give them a break, you said it yourself that fishing is hard. They're just beginners wanting to pick up some pointers from a pro fisherman. Be a good sportsman and help teach them how to fish properly. Perhaps cast a couple times using their pole so they will have a third person view of how to cast it properly.

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man how to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.
Let a man scare the fish away, and you end up not feeding the both of you for a day(s)."
Seriously though, I'm not a huge fan of fishing, so whenever I go fishing with the family, I usually just using one of their fishing poles and often ending up hooking on worms or minnows.
