Yeh. Semi-auto versions are affordable. I like fire arms too but there's no place to store them or free shooting ranges. Plus, ammo are damn expensive...

btw... i am not trying to get anyone in trouble but my brother in law who is also a school teacher who lives in milwaukee who owns land west of madison... he hunts every year on his property with a 22 lr...  i have to admit... your wisconsin corn feed deer tastes a lot better than our high country deer because of the pine needle stench... our eastern plains deer aren't too bad tasting too...

shouldn't be killing deer with a 22 LR
it's illegal, at least here in wisconsin
too small of a round
not powerful enough
might or might not work

@ zdn...  lol! i realize that in most states the approved caliber is a .240 for big game... this doesn't excuse that i used a .22 caliber but we were on private land and the owner who was this old white dude who owned hundreds upon thousands of acres... who was also a good friend of my dad's encouraged me to shoot the deer...

.22 caliber is not recommended and im not sure at which point we as a nation got so sensitive to ethical kills... which i support whole heartedly but i assure you all... a .22 caliber placed correctly will kill a deer...
LOL...you must've shot the deer right between the eyes, from 100 yards!  most think a 22lr will only hurt big game (which is mostly the case, if shot from a distance).  when butchering livestock such as pigs, cows, goat and other larger domestic animals, aside from bleeding the preferred round is a 22lr.  i have friends who are avid squirrel and deer hunters...they claim to have taken down deers with a lesser grain, a .17hmr round.

truth be told... yrs back when i still owned my 17hmr... my cousin invited us to his farm in okie... he has roughly a herd of 100 cows, black angus...  he told us if we want to eat one we would have to butcher it... at about 30 yards i dropped one of his  bull... placed the shot right below the ear... one shot one kill no damaged/wasted meat... personally the 17 hmr does more damage than the 22 lr from what i have witnessed... im sure the ballistics will confirm that as well...

22lr is fine. Question is can anyone hit the right spot for a quick kill. Answer is no, especially a moving target. 30yrds is rather close. Size calibre is a factor but the muzzle velocity is what counts as far as penetration goes.

That's why you do a headshot while the deer is standing still. Never done that before with a 22lr though. But have shot plenty of squirrels over 30 yds with one. So I don't think a headshot to a deer at 30 yds is that difficult.

Unless the deer has chronic wasting disease
They ain’t going come 30 yard and stand still and give you a shot

Especially for you folk that lives in California with huge wide open field
My cousin in California are making mule deer shot that are over 300+ yard kill
I will bet you $100 every single…you can’t do a headshot with a 22lr

Hunting is already hard enough as is
We just trying to get meat in the freezer

I shot a standing deer under my stand less than 10 yards away from the muzzle.

100+ yard is really pushing the 22lr limit
Especially headshot
I don’t even shoot squirrels beyond 50 yard
Because you start to lose accuracy
Going start doing gut and butt shot
Just the way the ammo is made
Its cheap and unreliable

This meeka YouTube guy has a high end 22lr rifle and he was struggling At 150 yard
Missing shot and stuff
All these talk about deer headshot

If you are as rich as you claim to be
Why not just drop $300-400 on a rifle at BASS PRO SHOP or something
These rifle are accurate straight out of the box

Instead you are shooting these cheapo low caliber squirrels rifles for deer which is illegal in my state
