My work got me to meet people from old times
« on: November 06, 2019, 12:32:21 PM »
About 15 years ago, I was a mobile interpreter. I had been assigned to go to people's houses to interpret during nurse visits and so forth. A Hmong family I was interpreting for asked about my backgrounds--who my parents were and where we came from in Laos.

He then told me his family used to live just down the hill from our thatch.

That was 30 years or so ago.

Yesterday, a client came to my office. I had never met her before. But she said she knew my parents and my maternal grandparents very well. Her family used to live in that same village I grew up in. As she described where her family's house was, I remembered playing marbles with her brothers in their front yard.

I expect the next client to tell me she and I used to know each other from the life before this one.

wow...I wouldn't remember most people.   Most certainly I don't expect them to remember me either.

The real villain is looking at you.  The last hero was just not true.  If everything works out in the end.  It's because all things make amends.

Elders have great memories. If you tell them to go tell someone to call you from another state, they remember to do that, even after travelling around a lot first.

I don’t think so, you can’t possibly know them all.

I saw you once at the fishing area, I made fun of your cheap fishing pole and pointed out how dirty you keep your fish just there on the ground, lol  do you remember me?
