I just bought my fishing license after this last snow cleared.

If you want, this May, come with me to a lake to catch largemouths. There are lots of them. We have to find them in some hard-to-get to spots but the bites are fun!

Thanks for the invite.  I'll just have to see when if I do get license.  I hate going to walmart...but might have to make that trip.

Cool.

I started looking for some really good baits this whole year just for them. Got a bunch of artificial things we can use. But last year I noticed that live crawlers worked better than live leeches. I just don't like touching crawlers too much.

Thanks for the invite.  I'll just have to see when if I do get license.  I hate going to walmart...but might have to make that trip.

Last week I caught a 4-pounder and released it. That was from a different lake than the one I'm going to tomorrow. There are  lot of the big ones in this new lake.

Surprising how last week we managed to still catch our limits of crappies for three persons and also caught lots of largemouths. We kept our limits of the crappies and released some with the largemouths.

6-lb low-vis-green mono line on 7' walleye pole, 1/8 oz flu flu tipped with 1/2" chartreuse Gulp minnows.

Deeper waters produce better results. Let it go down as deep as possible, even touching the bottom. Even shrubby and weedy beds on shallows don't do that well.

In most people's freezers right now.

But Hastings' dam, Red Wing by the park or a bit up New Port park, the various Mississippi dams, Lake City, even St. Croix's Hudson where the seagulls are, Prescott...

I think they do better early morning to late afternoons and early evenings.

Guys love bucktails and mimic minnows for white bass.

Did one time and got my two-day limits. But I seriously don't think it's worth it. Even if I got a whole truck-load, I'm still not going to drive 6 hours each way just for some white bass. I love my car more than just getting some fun catching extra fish that I don't even eat much of.

I love fishing.  But I'm not that nuts about fishing. Now and then I'd drive one or two hours max to a good spot. But I don't go everyday. The gas, the mileage, the time lost from work--all  tell me I shouldn't be out there for too much more than one day. I always come right back home after one day of fishing.

A lot of my fishing skills come from reading what those pros are saying on Facebook, especially at Hmong Fishing Scene and Minnesota Hmong Fishing. Plus, ideas from a few friends I had gone out to fish with in the past. Otherwise, I'm not a guaranteed catcher. I don't know the right baits. I don't know the right moves for each kind of fish. I don't even know all of the great lakes and streams. I'm just beginning to acquire the right tools. But I'm still not that good and not the crazy about fishing.
