How do we say it?

The Vietnamese waiter says “fa-a.“

I grew up saying “fur-ur.”

But it’s spelled p/h/o.

First time for me was when I was four on the mountains of Laos. My uncle took us to town and treated us at an open-air restaurant on the hills. I sat on a wooden bench with my feet not even reaching the ground and slurped what I could from the fork I was using. Couldn’t finish the entire bowl because I was sick and just couldn’t swallow any more. How I miss that bowl of pho to today.

Couldn't finish my bowl of pho. I ate just the top portion. So, I packed the rest home.
