There are Amish farms in PA that give away chickens for free. They used those chickens to lay eggs. But after the chickens are no longer useful to them, they invite people to just slaughter those chickens and take them anywhere for whatever reasons. Some have ended up in grocery stores to sell for pho broths and chicken soup dishes.
