Is that your spare or are you installing that for the look?

It's the spare. When I went to Moab the spare tire was bottoming out under the truck at certain drops due to Tacoma's weak leaf springs so I did some research and a swing out tire carrier was the best solution for me without lifting the truck..

I see. You could have just mounted on the bed or the side right?

Now, you need a cover for that spare. Get the Raiders cover.

In the bed won't work as I want cargo space, on the side will interfere with the side rearview view giving the size of the tire:

Another plus is, much easier to swap the spare compared to the OEM way  O0;

I see some trucks have a spare carrier above the ski rack. Just like the roof cargo.

Looking good but it's expensive for a kit that's only for the rear. If you like to off road or drive on rough roads, having those kick arse kits are awesome. Otherwise, it severely reduce your drive comfort and mpg.

Yup, those could work too but heavier and more difficult to get it down when needed:

Drive comfort doesn't change in my ride, it's actually better due to less rear bounce but yes, the more weight added does affect the mpg. Not by much though, probably .5-1.0 mpg.
