Because it doesn't matter if it's Y2K, Mayan Calendar or COVID, those shameless idiotic hoarders with zero compassion nor courtesy toward their fellow societal members especially the more vulnerable members i.e., elderly, babies..will still display their NASTY behaviors just the same:

Brisket, ramen and toilet paper: Grocery stores enforce product purchase limits as COVID-19 cases surge

Can you spare a square? As COVID-19 cases in the United States spike, supermarkets and other retailers nationwide are taking action to ward off the bare shelves and hoarding of toilet paper and other basic supplies that defined the first several weeks of the coronavirus pandemic. One notable step shoppers will notice as they fill their carts, whether online or in-store: the reintroduction of purchase limits on certain items.

Due to SHAMELESS idiotic hoarders, FRAUDs, and scammers "negative" behaviors, this headline says it all:

"Be ready for new panic buying and shortages as COVID cases surge"

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said recently that keeping the shelves stocked will be "choppy for months to come." Stores are putting fresh limits on some purchases, and Amazon is cracking down on its merchants who appear to be price gouging.

Here are some tips on how you can get what you need as stores respond to a new wave of panic buying.

...If you're planning to avoid stores and are doing most of your shopping online, install a free browser extension that will automatically find you deals and coupon codes.

...The level of panic might not be the same this winter as it was last March and April, but even a little hoarding will aggravate the already high consumer demand during the holiday season. But stores have tried to plan ahead.
