Lots of car owners neglect their car's throttle body and mass airflow sensor but it's an easy task (about as easy as changing motor oil IMO) that could save hundreds to thousands of dollars in the long run on some cars so it's a no brainer not to get it done:

I recommend removing the whole thing off so you can clean behind it too:

The real villain is looking at you.  The last hero was just not true.  If everything works out in the end.  It's because all things make amends.

This is a preventive method before the symptoms but what happens if it is dirty so what are the symptoms?

You start your car and she cranks and starts but idle is weak and can not hold idle and the car will die.

Clean out your throttle body and mass air flow sensor.  If you take it off, you can get a much cleaner experience but if you are lazy, you can still clean it by spraying it and wiping out that carbon deposit.

Depending on the vehicle, if it is an electronic where the flap in the throttle body is triggered by pressing on the gas, have a partner step the gas peddle to open the flap while you clean it out.

You should get it to idle.  Maybe like brand  new.

Now after you clean it, you might get a check engine light popping on up.  This should be normal as you are removing the MAF sensor.  Have an odb reader to erase it.

With a car starts, on idle and if there is no other problem, you can ride or limp your way home.

 O0

I think so but only for the throttle body.  Only use the MAF cleaner on the MAF sensor

Yes, for the TB but more elbow grease and pass as it doesn't break down the carbon build up as well...

True.

Some cars, you can just disconnect the battery cable and the computer will re-set and thus, shut off the check engine light but some will need an ODB to erase it..

And yeah, try not to leave the key in the ignition while performing this task as that can trigger check engine light too..

If you find that you have cracks and tears on the TB gasket, you should replace it:
