NFL: I think the OT rule needs tweeking a little
« on: January 24, 2022, 02:01:42 PM »
Personally, I think the original OT rule is good for regular season but when it is the playoff times, OT rule needs to change.  It seems like the outcome is all about gambling on the coin toss.  Best in my opinion is this.

Both teams will get the ball or chance to dance.

First team gets 3 and second team gets 3, we go into extra OT where the next one scores win
First team gets 7 and second team gets 7, we go into extra OT where the next one scores win
If no points then we keep on playing till there is points.  It could go on forever but there are revenues to be made through food deliveries cuz no one wants to leave their seating plus tv ad sales.

The NFL's overtime rule explained and why fans want to see it changed

No. Not in favor. If you’re good enough you don’t need OT to win.

I'll make the game more difficult.

Now if both teams score a 3 and 3 or a 7 and 7, the next team, if they fail to score will lose.   :2funny:

This will give fans on both sides with nothing to complain about.  Both teams did touch the ball in OT.  That was the premises from the get go.

If your defense can’t stop an offense going 80 yards in OT you don’t deserve to win.

Here’s an update.

The NFL will consider two overtime rule changes for the 2022 season submitted by clubs.
The first, proposed by the Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles, would simply allow both teams an opportunity to possess the ball in overtime.
The second -- and more interesting option -- was submitted by the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday. This version would allow both teams an opportunity to possess the ball in overtime unless the team with the first possession scores a touchdown and a two-point try.
The overtime rule currently allows the club receiving first possession to end the game with a touchdown. The rule is under increased scrutiny since the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round of the postseason without Josh Allen’s club touching the ball in OT.
The Titans' proposal is a new twist that could add drama. The team that scores a TD to open overtime could end the game with a successful two-point conversion. But if it goes for two and fails, that team leaves itself open to a loss with an opposing TD and a PAT.
While the NFL has been reticent to change the overtime rules, in part due to safety concerns, there has been a growing groundswell for change

NFL owners have approved a change to the overtime rule, now guaranteeing both teams have a possession in playoff games, the league announced Tuesday.
