There are many types of forced marriage in this world, but perhaps the most dramatic is marriage by abduction, or bride kidnapping. Bride kidnapping is common in parts of sub-Saharan Africa, the Caucasus and Central Asia. In rural Kyrgyzstan, where over 60% of the country’s population lives, surveys suggests 1 in 3 marriages begins with a kidnapping.
