Yeah, that's usually where the fish are hiding too.  In the snagfu spot.

I guess I should always start up with old school tactics.  A simple jig and curly tail plastic.  If it snafu's, not so much a big deal.

Although honestly I always like to start up with like a Rooster tail or Kastmaster spoon.  If it's heavy current, then probably a Bomber Slab Spoon or Swedish Pimple Spoon. 

Top waters like poppers and spooks, will never snag unless it's a monster fish that takes your lure and breaks the line.
