Speech to your MIL
« on: August 17, 2022, 11:38:48 PM »
We are doing a hu plig event for my MIL in 3 months. All the sons/nyabs and daughters and their husbands are throwing this event together. We have been selected to make a speech and as a DIL I’m at a lost about wha to say, what’s an appropriate speech to make. I have a good relationship with my mil and the entire family. Our FIL is not with us anymore he passed 4 years ago.

Any idea? Can someone write me a speech? It’s harder for me because I have to speak it in Hmong and my Hmong sucks help!

Maybe look up a speech example online and then translate that into Hmong.  O0

Or you could start off like this:

Kuv tsis muaj ntau yam hais tab sis kuv xav ua tsaug rau cov kwv tij neej tsa thiab phooj ywg sawv daws uas nej muab nej lub sij hawm tseem ceeb tuaj nrog peb koom pluas mov no thiab. Ntxiv mus, kuv yuav tsis tuav nej ib leej twg lub npe tab sis kuv ua tsaug thiab zoo siab rau tas nrho cov niam tsev, cov niam hlob  thiab niam ntxawm uas tuaj pab peb ua pluas mov no. Kuv yuav nco ntsoov nej tej txiaj ntsig. Hnub qab nram ntsis yog nej hu tuaj txog kuv los kuv yuav tuaj pab nej thiab.

Gotta remember to thank the guests and the people who helped your celebration.  O0

Now onto mil, you could start off like this:

Niam, ntawm no kuv yog koj Nyab [insert husband's name]. Kuv zoo siab tias kuv tau los ua koj nyab. Koj yog ib leej niam zoo thiab ib leej niam muaj lub siab loj siab dav. Koj txawj hlub peb cov me nyuam thiab koj txawj qhuab qhia kom peb ua neej caum tau lwm leej lwm tus. Peb yog me nyuam xwb, tej zaum peb yuav ua pauj tsis tau koj tej txiaj ntsig. Tab sis kuv xav hais rau koj, kuv niam, tias kuv hlub koj. Tej zaum muaj qee zaus kuv ua tsis raug koj siab los nco ntsoov tias kuv yuav hlub koj thiab ua raws li qhov kuv txawj. Muaj kev tu siab dab tsis los nco ntsoov tias tseem muaj kuv ua koj nyab. Kuv yuav hlub koj.

Something like that. I've had to make several speeches to my mil in front of people and sometimes just to her. Nobody trained me. Just had to do it from the heart.

Here’s what to say:

Add:”I wish he was here with us.

Your son and I have come back together and we are here for you to the end, MIL.”

I don’t expect you to write out your speech in Hmong. Just write it in English and interpret yourself on the set.

Of course, rehearse a few times in the mirror or to your husband or one of the SILs before the day.

Don’t be nervous. You already know everyone there. Just talk like you normally talk to them on those weekly interactions.
