Selfish bastard, now the kids start with trauma and without parents.

It is time invested. 

For this couple, it is just 10 years but 5 kids already involved.  Maybe it is more of a crime of passion.  It may be a crime of finance as well.

I’ve read and seen on the news about this and so often I wondered if people ever take the time to think about things and remove themselves out of the situation instead of dragging it to this point.

I agree with finance issue, it could cause a lot of stress and arguments.
