Ohio man admits leaving his infant son in hot car to die, police say

Landon Parrott, 19, confessed to leaving his one-year-old in the car so he "would not be a disturbance while in the house," police said in a Facebook post.

An Ohio man has been charged with murder, two counts of endangering a child and involuntary manslaughter after allegedly confessing to police that he intentionally left his one-year-old child in a hot car for five hours, police said.

Landon Parrott, 19, brought the unresponsive baby to the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital on the afternoon of Sept. 1, where he allegedly initially gave detectives inconsistent information about what had happened, New Philadelphia Police Chief Michael Goodwin said in a Facebook post.

"As the investigation continued and evidence was collected, the father was confronted with the new information and confessed to detectives what had happened to his son," Goodwin said in the Facebook post.

That new information, according to local Fox affiliate WJW, allegedly included surveillance video recorded across the street from the family's home, which investigators said allegedly shows Parrott leaving the boy alone in the car while his mother was working.

The video allegedly shows Parrott with the boy around 8:30 a.m., and then allegedly not again until 1:50 p.m., when Parrott went to pick up the boy's mother from work, WJW reported.

Abilene woman arrested for sex trafficking her daughter

An Abilene woman was arrested Friday for allegedly accepting money from men to have sex with her daughter, according to a court document.

Ashley Dale Franklin was arrested on a second-degree felony charge of trafficking person and taken to Taylor County Jail. Her bond was set at $150,000, according to jail records.

The Abilene Police Department began an investigation after being contacted by federal authorities regarding a child pornography case, the document said, with the victim making an outcry of abuse.

When the victim lived with her mother for about three years starting about Jan. 1, 2015, men would have multiple sexual acts with the child, the document said. The victim did not know the names of the men.

During the sexual assaults, the mother "would be present and supervise," the document said.

The men would pay the victim's mother, who used the money to buy drugs, the document said.

The victim was assaulted about every other day for a period of more than 30 days.

Investigators also interviewed two younger children under Franklin's care at that time. They corroborated the victim's statements about drug use and multiple men in the house, the document said.

During a polygraph exam, Franklin "showed deception when she denied these events occurred," the document said.

Spokane mother who filmed herself sexually assaulting her 3-year-old daughter gets 20 years in prison

Sep. 8—A Spokane mother in a gray jail jumpsuit told a federal judge Wednesday there will "never be an excuse" for her decision to film herself performing a sexual act on her own daughter, then send it over the internet to at least 10 people.

"I will live every day with the knowledge that I caused your pain," Jessica Barrington, 31, said in remarks directed to her child, who was not present in a federal courtroom Wednesday.

The admission of guilt and pledge to improve herself convinced U.S. Senior District Court Judge Rosanna Malouf Peterson to reject the federal prosecutor's office request that Barrington, previously known as Jessica Cunnington, spend 28 years behind bars. Instead, Peterson sentenced her to 20 years on a charge of production of child pornography. Barrington pleaded guilty in April.

After a frequently contentious back-and-forth with Assistant U.S. Attorney Dave Herzog concerning other child sexual abuse cases brought in the district, Peterson said she saw "no value" in imprisoning Barrington for another eight years based on her motivation to seek treatment while in jail since January 2019.

In one particularly heated moment, Herzog told Peterson that her decision to sentence Barrington to a decade of supervised release following imprisonment violated the terms of the plea agreement, in which federal prosecutors, Barrington's defense attorney and the county prosecutors who had charged her with child rape had agreed to a lifetime of supervision. Peterson then said she'd change her ruling on supervision to life, telling Barrington that she could petition to have it removed for good behavior after her release.

"That will look better in the press release, I'm sure," Peterson said, looking at Herzog.

Herzog said because of Barrington's actions, her children will not know their mother, and asked Peterson to send a message with her verdict.

"The community should know, if you assault your child, the consequences are severe," Herzog said.
