The verse implies only those who believes in Jesus and follow him will reaped the reward instead of those who don't. Whatever works that the unbelievers do on earth is just dirty rag (the term that Jesus use to describes as "unworthy" to him). Earthlings' job is easier and broader. Their distractions are mainly other's people and entertainments . On other hand, followers of Christ has harder job which is praying constantly and live seclusive life. Their path is narrower so that their focus mainly on the goal than slacking off into other things.
