The Highlander has that big old swooping bulge starts at front wheel well... swoop up to the rear light... looks nasty.
But it looks like this is the new design Toyota is going with. Probably will wait to make any new Toyota purchase until the next generation where this is phase out.

Probably truck based platform vs. car based platform to build the cage on so more efficient to design one cage this way and the other that way..

Yes, and it's an eye sore... I was going to get one to replace my older Highlander but when I saw the look of it, it turned me off.
I might go and get the new Honda Pilot.

While you at it, go talk smack about the tail of them 2023 honda accords.   My goodness, they took a chapter from the passat or Hyundai instead.
