I know they're looking for ways to generate revenue to lower the US debt ceiling.  It's the rich folks not carrying their fair share of the burden.  i.e former Pres. Trump paid "0" taxes for years.  Go after him and other folks like him for $$.

That idea of a national sale tax of 30% is extreme but they are moving in the right direction... need to revamp the tax. YAX... you forgot to mentioned that the bill being floated around would also remove all federal taxes (estate, individual and corporate) and rid the IRS.

The best course of action is to remove all the loopholes, no more tax avoidance schemes (deduction, credits, writeoff, etc etc). Everyone pay a certain percentage base on their income level. This way, you can't use any loopholes to lower your taxes. The tax level would apply to size of corporations too...

We can't really blame these people because the tax code allows them to do it legally... I'm sure almost all of tax filers in the US uses some sort of tax avoidance scheme to lower their taxes.

The proof is in the pudding. Show proof the wealthy, regardless of political affiliation are paying their share of taxes and only then will this remedy work.

Tax breaks for the rich because the rich are creating jobs for the poor.

I sold my PTO at 38% tax they already took out and my check felt like I got cheated.

Winning a jackpot at the casino, they only want 28% tax

When you are broken or being taxed like it  is an everyday normal thing, 38% or 99%, you just don't feel the impact because you are so used to it.  I just got two state tax refunds in the mailer. One for 2020 and one for 2021.  Both are the same amount, very small though but hey, at least someone at the irs are recalculating my papers and found that overcharged me.

Almost thought it was a scam letter at first.  The bank teller took it so I must be legit right?   :2funny:

With the current tax system, you're not going to see wealthy people paying their fair share because they can afford lawyers that will find loopholes for them. Case in point; Trump, Biden, Pelosi, etc etc. They all used loopholes to not pay their fair share of taxes...

Even with the proposed flat 30%, there's no evidence loopholes do not exist for the wealthy. This is more of the same "let the poor shoulder the burden".

Wouldn’t that be nice! I might continue to work longer too considering no more federal taxes.
