Looking for a reel to match my 5'6" fishing pole.
« on: January 24, 2023, 03:33:54 PM »
I went to Scheels and liked two but they were overpriced for me.

Then I went to Cabela's and was recommended the President. But I didn't like it enough to spend $70.00 on it.

Dic k's had a reel by Professional at a reasonable price range that I bought. It does match my rod but something just
doesn't feel right about the match yet.

So, I stopped at Joe's today and was introduced to the Vanford and another one by Daiwai. Real smooth and nice looking.
But I told the guy there I wasn't ready to spend $239.00 or $179.00 for a reel yet.

I'm going to wait a bit and see if I might want one of those at Joe's. I can return Dic k's to its Woodbury location.

Vanford is nice but a bit overpriced.  Pflueger President reels are okay performers, but the line lay on the spool sometimes get's unbalanced.

Diawa reels are generally smoother and lighter than Shimano reels, but Shimano reels can winch fish in when Diawa reels struggle.

I've thought about a Shimano. We'll see when I get a chance to go back to those stores.

I go to Joe's whenever they have good sale like 20% off.  Last year they had VIP days and reels was 40% off.  Of course one had to go on the Shimano day for a Shimano reel or a Diawa day for the Diawa reel.  Selection was limited to on hand.  That's kind of why I made no Blaque Friday purchases this past year.

Will do.

Joe's has more variety than all the other ones I know so far.

bfs is hot in japan and very expensive and it's getting all the buzz.

this guy makes it look easy.

I tried to get Reporter into BFS reels.  O0

Personally I can't handle or get use to the flimsy wobbly glass rods.  Ugly Sticks is about the most I have done.  They do a really good job at casting with a lot of forgiveness.

That looks so cool.

Thanks.

I'll think more about my choices now. We'll see.

My rod is medium action.

Your 5'6" rod is medium power?

Fast action; medium power, yes.

I want to have good penetration when the trout bite.
