..for the rear brake assembly of their compact to mid-size pickup truck line that's currently known as the Tacoma/Hilux  ???

Sure drum rear brakes stop fine but disc is so much easier to work on so the 2024 4th Gen Taco will get them:

Before that, many Taco owners had to use a conversion kit if they want rear disc brakes:

30-40 years ago a lot of toyota truck owners just thought it was the coolest thing to remove the t-o and t-a and all they get is a "YO"..haha
I know someone still owns a old school toyota truck..I think they still use those circular style old school carburetors too.
