SF is trying to tax GM for $108millions because they claimed by way of the self-driving Cruise. SF claimed that since the Cruise will link GM to SF, they are entitled to the tax revenue, a portion of GM's global revenue will be taxed in SF - which means that GM's global sale rev of $3billions is subject to SF tax, amounting to $108millions. Even though GM does not employ anyone in the city, has no plants or other physical locations in the city, has no dealerships in the city, and sells only a de minimis amount of retail goods (approximately $677,000 in 2022) in the city.
