TUTORIALS - Using Photoshop CS
« on: February 11, 2008, 08:14:04 PM »
Since I've seen a couple of request for how to's but nothing specific, I thought I'd put a sticky here for anyone who has tutorials to share.  If you share, please be specific and use image examples.

How to Blur and Brighten:

This tutorial is purposely blurred or brightened at a high range just to show the difference between before and after.  When you use it on your own photos, make sure you adjust to your liking.

1.   Create duplicate layer: Layer > Duplicate Layer

2.   Use Gaussian blur to blur: Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur

3.   Use erase tool to erase the blur away.  The erase tool is on the left side.

After using erase tool:

4.   Now combine layers: Layer > Merge Windows

5.   Create duplicate layer again.

6.   Select overlay

7.   Gaussian blur the image again.

8.   Create duplicate layer.

9.   Play with the opacity percentage until it’s to your liking.

10.   Combine layers

11.   Brighten: Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast…

Change brightness to your liking.

Final product:

thanks Zena for the useful tips...I like how you have screen prints with it..
i've never really played with adobe until now...there are alot of cool things u can do with it...just takes practice..

still learning so here's the final results.. ;D not the best...(please don't quote) thanks! and much appreciated

I used the Lasso Tool to select a portion of my face- filter and then surface blur...I only wish I knew how to blur it so my face don't look too fake...any suggestions?

this site is very useful as well..

I guess I'll share my secret to beautiful skin. I'm tire of seeing people use the blurring tool alone, it just looks horrible and unnatural.

Here's my target, the always beautiful Jessica Biel

Before we start, I recommend you use the healing tool to remove large moles, red spots and things of that sort. (if you guys don't know how to use the healing tool than you are missing out on a lot!) For Jessica I'll just leave her alone. Also duplicate your picture unto another layer before you start.

1. Go to Filter, Noise, Dust and Scratches
Depending on the size of your picture your radius might be different than mine, but try to make your picture kind of like mine. Leave threshold at 0.

2. Go to Filter, Blur, Gaussian Blur
Just like above make it like mine, your radius # may be different.

3. Go to Filter, Noise, Add Noise
Add enough noise so it kind of look like skin but not too much.

4. Here's the fun part. Go to Layer, Layer Mask and choose Hide all

5. Change your foreground color to White and your background color to Black. Use the paintbrush to brush all over the skin avoiding the eyes hair and anything you don't want to blur out. The white color will paint the area of the face that you want airbrush and the black will restore any mistakes you make. Yes it looks fake and real noticeable but we can make it more realistic.

6. To fix the problem above just change your opacity level to where you like it and that should do it. I drop mine to 50% and there you have it.

how do you cut and paste so that the pieces that you add on will look as if that's the original background instead of from another picture?  :-\

Are you talking about extracting? If so, there's many ways you can you can do it. It's time consuming though, especially for things that do not have distinct edges or clear lines. Hair and furs is also a big headache. I'm too lazy to make a tutorial, so just check out these links:

http://www.escrappers.com/extract.html

http://www.photoshopcafe.com/tutorials/masking/masking.htm

so many tutorials out  there already, just do a search on it.
