Title: Remember you are just one car crash away
Post by: hmgROCK on October 08, 2015, 10:50:32 AM
Or in Steve job of apple
One cancer away

Don't be cheap and greedy
Because you might not live long to see your 401k  retirement
Who know when your timer is up

Did good this year on your return?
Spend a little more for Christmas present

I think thats a rather poor way to look at retirement.  No one can predict the future and to imply that as the reason for not saving is irresponsible planning.

Save what you can, but enjoy life too.  Unless you plan to have rich kids take care of you, you better do it yourself. The point of planning now is not moreso the amount of money you contribute (although that is important), its TIME.  Time is your biggest asset now.

Why not do both?

You just need to do it in moderation.

Save 1-2 years of income, and SPEND IT.  Retirement is not realistic....h alf of you will be dead before receiving it.

Yup that's what I been saying dawg
I LOL those people who always reach their yearly cap on their retirement

Spend a little on your family. Give donation so you get tax break.

Or in Mr Dave Goldberg CEO of some company. Married Facebook coo spouse

You are just one fall of the treadmill death

Well, its your money so you do what you want with it.

With some good budgeting I'm able to do both.  I save a decent amount for my retirement funds and i also get to enjoy life.

hmgRock, you're saying if your company gave you $10K for every $5K you put into your 401K per year that you would not take that offer?

You can't live life in fear of death or not being able to spend that retirement money.  Life is meant to be lived.  Do work that you love so that it doesn't feel like boring work or slaving away.  Steve Jobs did what he loved.  I'm pretty sure when he died, he was fulfilled.  His legacy will live for centuries beyond.  We are the ones left without his knowledge and creativity.  We've lost a genius but we should be grateful for being alive now and having his technology available to us.

Got bills to pay man.
I match whatever I can. Usually $25 per paycheck
Ain't no biggie to me. I live and spend in the moment. Save if there any left over

Because you are just one car crash away

That was an example.  If they were to give you $5000 for every $500 you can put in, I'm sure you wouldn't hesitate.  Heck, even if they were to match what you put in, you would be an idiot not to take it if you can afford to, for example $500 for $500.

I think you got it wrong.  Save first then spend because if an emergency should happen, you'll have a cushion to fall on, otherwise you will be so bitter and complain about people who could afford things.

And I'm okay with death whether it be a car accident or health issues or whatever.  I'm living my life to the max and I'm happy.

Because you are just one car crash away

And what happens if that car crash never comes and you end up living up to your 90s?

What would your solution be when there is hardly any social security for you to fall back on?

I'm building my retirement up so no need to rely on kids.  If things go well, I'm going to be digging my feet into some warm white sand in Hawaii.

If not, then I'll see you at the shelter.  We can share my cat food.
