About a month ago I did a ton of research on foundations and selected the top 4 to sample from Sephora. I have been looking for a new foundation and want something with a little more coverage than the BE powder I had been using. Over the summer I bought a very expensive foundation by Hourglass in which I love but I didn't want to continue paying that price if I could get something slightly cheaper that will cover just as well.

Dior Nude Skin - Shade 25
Did not like it. I think it broke me out. Didn't cover very well. It made my face shiny.
BE Complexion Rescue - Shade 06 (Ginger)
I like the way it feels when it goes on my skin. It's super lightweight and feels like I have nothing on. There was no staying power though. It didn't cover my dark spots, blemishes, and red areas. It also made my face shiny.
Kat Von D Lock It Foundation - #54
The Sephora beautician told me that I shouldn't try this foundation because it would be too thick for me. I don't have a lot of discoloration and can probably go without foundation so I think that's whey she thought it would be too thick for me. Well, turns out, it's one of my top favs. It covers superbly well and even though it's not considered a matte foundation, it is matte on me. This is like a holy grail. I've never been a fan of the creator of this line, Kat Von D herself, but I gave in and decided to try it because the youtubers love it. I'm glad I gave it a chance because I just might buy this one. I realize that KVD is pretty good at what she does not only in tattoos but in makeup as well.
Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet - #45
This one is amazing too. It's so similar to the Hourglass and the Kat Von D.
I have also sampled the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation and really like it too. It's not a matte but it covers very well. My face does shine a bit more than the Matte Valvet, KVD, and Hourglass but it makes my skin so smooth and lasts all day.
Right now I'm going to stick with the Hourglass because it is really a great foundation. When I'm done with it though, I might switch to either KDV, MUFE Matte Velvet or buy anther Hourglass. Tough choices.

I've never heard of Hourglass. What brand is that?

It's a name brand like NARS, Bare Essentials, etc. They are a high end makeup line. I really only invested in the foundation because I didn't want oily skin during my sister's wedding over the summer and did some researching and sampling and it was the perfect one for me. Now it turns out, I actually really like this stuff. I was never big into full coverage foundations before so this kind of stuff is pretty new to me. I think it comes with age. Was never into anti-aging either but I am now sampling stuff from SK-II. The face moisturizer I'm sampling costs $160 for a regular size! I would need the eye cream and the lotion as well. I guess it would beat getting Botox but I am also considering Botox sometime in the future. I never imagined I would ever say something like that. Anyway, I'm going off on a tangent here.
As for foundation application, I normally use my fingers or a sponge depending on how heavy or light I want it.

That makes sense why you don't know about Hourglass. The brand is quite popular. :)
If you can go without foundation forever, I say go for it. Saves time and money and I could definitely use a little more of both.

I don't used foundation anymorel. I still have my full size kit of bare minerals that barely untouched for a while. I like my face the way it is even if I have brown spot.
I loved Kat Von D as a tattoo artist. You used to watched her tattoo show when it first came out. I don't have any tattoo but just have a love for arts. She wear the red color very well. I think she has beautiful skin and can even be a model without all that tattoos.

I don't have a holy grail foundation yet. I am just using the IT CC Cream for now. I wash my face with the mia clarisonic and I love the clean feeling after washing off all the makeup. I feel clean and fresh even though my skin is blemished. I started taking birth control pills for a month and a half now and it's giving me little zit like things on my face and then the zits leave a mark on my face. I hate it. Don't want to take any birth control anymore but I have to for medical reasons. Now I'm thinking about going to a dermatologist to see how to lighten or fade these age spots. Beauty is a struggle.

Without foundation I look tired and not groomed. Foundation + a bit of makeup makes me look awake and put together. I'm not as fortunate as others and can't wake up looking pretty. I've got wrinkles, spots, and the blue veins are beginning to show up around my temples due to the skin getting thinner. It's a normal thing with age. I'd like to make all this look less noticeable.
I'm glad you like KVD. She seems like a really cool person. I don't watch any reality shows and have never seen her show but I've heard about it. Yeah, she's good at what she does.

Physical beauty is important to some but to me, I simply just want to look clean and groomed, and not older than my age. If I let my hair color go as well as the makeup and weight, I'd look like a 50 year old lady.

I used my mia Clarsonic about 2x a week. I just like the fresh feeling of it but can't tell if it help or not. At night I used L Oeral nite creme for my face but washing it off each morning just give me a fresh feeling too. As long as I dont feel dried after using something then I continued to use it but most night I'm so tired that I can only shower, dried my hair and off to bed. To take care of my skin take time because my kids keep me busy more than I have time for myself.
Products I have tried so far none make me break out but just don't like the texture feeling of it. I always want to see a dermatologist but dont know if insurance cover such service as it can be seen as Comestic. I do have Meskas friends that see a dermatologist with their daughter.
I never used birth control even though I'm very fertile. I'm scared because everyone experience it different. I'm probably going to have my tube tied, burn, etc in 2-3 months just waiting for the year to end and then start looking into which method is right for me.

Thank you for the reviews. I wear foundations here and there when I have time to do my makeup. I like Makeup Forever foundations because the coverage is perfect for my skin type. When I used this foundation I do not break out.
I heard of hour glass products but the price is ridiculous. I rather use other Sephora brands.
It's good we have Sephora here at the mall open recently but I have not bother getting sample or test it out. I still preferred Ulta in Turlock.
My daughter still want me to get her the Laura M. foundation but I still won't allowed her to wear make up.

So I was running low on my Hourglass foundation about a month ago and got the Makeup Forever HD. For some reason I'm not liking it as much as the Hourglass. So now I'm going to give the Kat Von D a try and if it doesn't live up to the sample then I'm going to cough up $$ for the Hourglass. It's one of those sayings: You don't know what you've got until it's gone. I think I took the Hourglass for granted. Yeah, it costs more but it does the job.

Here's a comparison photo I did this morning on my hand. You can't tell but the Hourglass is matte and the Makeup Forever isn't. But throughout the day my skin doesn't get oily or too oily with the hourglass but it does with the Makeup Forever.

I smeared the foundation to the right for each one but they blended in. The images make my skin look dark...I'm not that dark.

My love Naked Weightless Ultra Definition. It blends into your skin smoothly. Not cakey. Coverage is very good for blemishes and scars. The shade match my Asian skin tone. $40.00. Not bad..
I'm glad this one works for you. I think I sampled this before and it wasn't for my skin.

nkausee, I've tried some Dior foundations and just didn't really like them. I love Dior's Iconic mascara though. I used to buy them all the time but now I've gone cheap and buy Maybelline mascaras. They've really kicked it up with comparable mascaras.
Speaking of Shiseido, I have an interest in the Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation. I initially saw an ad or commercial on it. I also read the reviews on Sephora and it's a matte foundation. I'll have to sample it one of these days. It's $10 less than the Hourglass. Is this the one you are using?

Funny how your Shiseido foundation looks like Hourglass and the HD looks just like...the HD...LOL!
The Hourglass is very matte though but as I mentioned, that can't be seen because the only real way to test it is to wear it all day and then take a look at it at the end of the day. Of course I favor the Hourglass though because it has really worked well for me. I do realize that not everyone likes it. I did a ton of YT on it before buying because I wanted be sure that I really really really wanted it because of the price. There were lots of pros and cons with different reasons but I was sold by those who liked it. Even at that, it still took me a long time before I caved in and mostly it's because it was so expensive and I could never fathom plunking $55 on makeup. It's so crazy.
You know, I have been doing some researching on Shiseido's cleansing oil and Ibuki face wash because I've been thinking of buying them. Ages ago I used the Benefiance face cream because it was the only thing that worked on my super dry skin. At the time it cost $70 for a jar. Now I think it's about $120? I don't ever need that kind of moisture anymore but I have begun to look at Shiseido's other products because I want to switch from Olay to something from Sephora so I could get points mainly but because I'm older and I want something that will "appear" to work better on my skin.
My go to cleansing oil was the DHC brand but I got tired of ordering through so many places so I decided to try BOSCIA from Sephora. BOSCIA is a Japanese line (sorry for the caps, my auto correct keeps putting in Bosnia). I like it and it works very well but it's slightly on the thick side. It's still very liquidy, just that compared to DHC's it's more thick. I had looked at Shiseido's cleansing oil along with some other brands too but I've had a good experience with Shiseido thus I may just try it's cleansing oil first.
I was looking for a face cleanser too. Right now I'm using CeraVe but I can't stand the way it smells. I gag every time I wash my face with it. I bought it (2 of them) on sale and with a coupon at Walgreens so it was really inexpensive. I'm just trying to get buy with it while I decide what I want to spend a little more on. I recently tried the Peter Thomas Roth Anti-aging gel wash and I love it. Love the scent and how well it cleans my skin but it costs $38 and I'm not sure I'm ready to pay that much for a face wash. My moisturizer by Murad is already pretty pricey at $60+ but it works perfect with the Hourglass foundation. I looked into the Ibuki line and was interested until I read that it was made out of rice enzymes. I was told that rice causes acne from when I was in my 20's so I've steered away from anything that contained rice products. I've also being eyeing SK-II but they also use rice enzymes in their products. Of course, I went out and bought their eye cream anyway and it works like magic on me. Not sure the eye cream contains the enzymes though. I know their face lotion does. Anyway, I may or may not try the Ibuki but there is another face wash (in the blue tube) by Shiseido that I want to try out. Since I have 2 bottles of the CeraVe and don't want them to go to waste, I'm trying to use them up. It's so hard though but I don't like wasting either.
btw, do you think the Ibuki helps with age spots? That's what I'm trying to tackle too. I don't have many but I'm pretty sure they will suddenly creep up on me in no time.

I have sensitive skin as well but I've had to start reading labels because I try to stay as close to natural as possible. It's impossible though.
I agree, Clinique is strong but I like their benzoyl peroxide all over face lotion or cream I think. My daughter couldn't use it 'cause it was too drying so I decided to give it a try and it works on on my acne. I still get acne in my 40's, could you believe? It is stress acne though. In the day I use DHC's salicylic spot treatment.
I think I might have to try the Ibuki line. It's all so stressful trying to decide what brand to use. There are just way too many choices out there. I'm not looking for brightening yet but I'm sure I will. Once I used a brightening lotion from Aveeno and it made my face rough and turned it darker somehow. It was weird. I'm wondering if what it was doing was turning my face to match what would have been my age spots if I had had any. Well, as soon as I stopped all went back to normal. I currently use a face scrub by Aveeno so I don't know what was up with the moisturizer. Since then (that was about a decade ago) I've never tried any brightening anything. It was just a bad experience I'm sure.

After sampling a small variety of liquid foundation and a cushion foundation, I've returned to my BE powder foundation. It is the only foundation that doesn't look like I have any foundation on. Funny but I find it really strange how someone would put concealer and foundation on and then put on contour makeup. I don't get it. I mean, I understand the goal: to have a smooth face and eccentuate certain parts of the face, but to me it always looks too overdone.

Thanks, ladies, for your reviews/comparisons/opinions. I've been browsing through Sephora online and reading foundation/moisturizer/cleanser reviews, since I'm on the lookout for new products. I've tried a few samples I received from Sephora but nothing has really worked well on my skin. :-\

I keep finding myself returning to the LENEIGE BB Cushion even though I know it breaks me out. I love how light it goes on and gives my face a nice glow.

Hi. I use LA Girl pro concealer, da yellow one beacuse I kinda yellows.. i using as both foundation and concealer. Hope that helping.

So I got a sample of the Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint in nude from Sephora. I tried it this past weekend and it feels like a thicker foundation. It was alright and it didn't break me out. How is it compared to the Immaculate?

I haven't tried the skin tint but I happen to think every Hourglass product is amazing. I am currently using a veil type of face powder on top of my BE or just by itself and I totally love it.
