Hmong Stories / Re: Neej Neeg ONLY!
« on: May 10, 2012, 01:48:38 PM »
The Hmong have used the word dabneeg to mean both a folktale and a historical narration of a past real event.  How you spell your syllables--together, they refer to shaman life or shaman lifestyle or shaman fate only.

I think Apple meant to say:  Neej Neeg which is Life stories...

I don't have any personal stories but I've heard of a story from an Aunty.  She was telling us women that back in the home country, one of her child, a young child, got sick and died.  She said the child's hands and feet were still warm..looked like he was sleeping only.  After the burial, the villagers and herself heard her child crying from the grave...for awhile and eventually, the crying stopped.  Now that she reflected back, she said, "I think my child was not dead but was probably unconscious and we didn't know so we buried him.."

When I heard that life story (neej neeg), it was soooo heartbreaking :'( :'( :'(

Why do it?  If a person who believes in God can pray for a cure then it's logical for a hmong person who believes in Shamanism to Ua NEEB for a cure as well.  The bottom line is:  when people suffer from whatever illness, cure or incurable, it gives them hope to try different ways of curing themselves..

Whatever gives them hope, let it be..

So sad what happened to that young man who took his life.  I'm curious, how did his birth parents reacted to this tragedy?

Currently reading "Once in a Lifetime" by Danielle Steele.  The title caught my attention so i'm reading to learn more about this "once in a lifetime" love..  (i'm assuming it's about a once in a lifetime love..since it's a romantic fiction.")

I've read literary works from Stephanie Lauren, I like.  Hmm, Amanda Quick, try hers before...long time ago.  What are some of your favorites all time romance novels?  Maybe I could start w/ those...

Need to getaway to far far away land... ;D ;D ;D
