Title: Squirrel Hunting Season: Minnesota
Post by: Reporter on April 01, 2017, 11:13:33 AM
Opens statewide.

Possession limit: 7 per day in the field, 14 total possession limit.

Two things people need to understand more of:

1. "Possession" means the amount of squirrels you have with you in the field with any you may have at home.

It is a combination of all of your hunting trips.

So, if you already have 7 at home from one trip, you can only shoot up to 7 on any new trip.

Once you have used any up, you can go hunt again for the same number that you have used up.

So, if you used up all 7, you can go hunt for 7 more. If you have used up just 2, you can only hunt for two more until you have used more up again.

2. You cannot shoot more than 7 per day, even if you have used or eaten them up all that day. In each one day, you can shoot and use only 7. Your taking limit starts again the next day, not the same day that you have already been in the woods hunting.

So, if you already got 7 today, and you have used two up, you cannot shoot two more today. You have to wait until tomorrow to shoot two more. If you shot two more day, your daily taking total would be considered 9 and you would be violating the law.

Who is going to keep track or go to the person home and check their fridge/freezer.  It's no wonder they will go back each day for 7 more or the limit.  No wonder CA people are doing it too.

I'm waiting for people to sell it.  I'm going to get a few.

Labors day weekend I guess people are going hunting.

7 per person, right?

so if I have 10 people in my family, I can have up to 70 squirrels?

Seven for each person who has a license and out hunting. So, yes, if you have 10 people with licenses and all are out hunting with you, your group can have 70 squirrels per day.

If the conservation officers suspect that someone is doing something illegal, they can get a warrant and open up your freezers for every squirrel you have in it.

And they have done that to many around the country. Fish and other animals, too.

They are paid to watch over the animals; that's all they do. They don't have anything else to do because no one is paying them to do anything else. So,  you should know that if they feel you have some in the freezer that you have not used yet and you keep taking more, you'll get a visit and search.

If people used up the squirrels they have killed, they can go back for more in the season.

Who is going to keep track or go to the person home and check their fridge/freezer.  It's no wonder they will go back each day for 7 more or the limit.  No wonder CA people are doing it too.

What do the squirrels look like up there?  Are they brown or red?

Oh please stop hunting squirrels. There's a major shortage of squirrels throughout MN. Even in the local neighborhood, there's barely any squirrels out and about.

Peek at those on your neighbors' trees and you'll know.

My back yard has an unlimited number of them. I have trapped over 20 and relocated them miles away. Yet a few days later, some more would be scurrying around again.

saw a facebook posting that the squirrel in the whitewater area are infested with disease, red bumps/rashes on the skin.
i several friends that have gone out...sounds like they are not getting their limit, either that or they don't want to share.

Several  years ago, I went to White Water. I got one squirrel each trip. I've never gone back there again.

The rash story  may be true. A friend of mine shot 6 squirrels towards the southwest lands. He said one had red bumps all over its body. He threw it away.

But I haven't gone out this year to hunt, so I don't know for sure.

Seven won't make one run out of fingers to count on. Some of us even have 11 or 12 fingers. Can't be too hard.

Did someone say they want to buy?

Buddy went last week got 4 by himself for only a few hours.  He must of shot the whole family.

I might go with him tomorrow, that is if we all don't pass out tonight.

We are having last week's squirrel the flip recipe style.

Why do you expect pay if you are gifting?

Gifting is when the court ask.  Paying is selling hence loophole

I see. I don't encourage that practice at all.

In MN, when we gift a wild game, we have to give them our license numbers also. If the DNR guys and gals question how our recipients got a hold of the games, they can then track the givers down.

Me neither but consider this circumstances.

The weekend is here.  You have a party to host.  Og who don't eat meat will be there.  In Cali, 2 stripers over 18in is regulation and because only 2 per angler, it then becomes a scares commodity in the community and smoked striper is a cultural dish in the Vietnamese community.

What to do when you can't catch them and have the craving?

Barter n buying underground and what not.  No such rule that I heard of in my country.  Cultural implications seem stronger and while it is illegal, it is the smaller of the legality.

I see. I still don't encourage that practice at all.

But if you are faced with actual starvation, I can see it being done legally in some places.
