Dude, you didn't hit 178.  ;D  Maybe 150...stock.

It had 124 Horses @ 10,500 rpm / Euro's unrestricted models top off at 164... US models - not close at all.

So where and when did you hit the 178?  Speedo healer on that after you "upgrade" the sprockets?  C'mon dude...

Do you have one now?  Let's hook up next season.

(drum roll please...)

Ta-da!  Backroads of western WI!  More Frosted Flakes, please!

No disrespect, but I don't think that 900RR won't even come close to  breaking the 180 mark at Brainerd's notorious Turn 1.

 :)

178mph is where I got it up to.  & as you said stock is 150mph so whats hard to believe about a jetted, piped & sprocket changed bike.  Stock 900RRs came with a 16in front wheel mine was also switched for a 17in.  & no this wasn't done on a limited roadway like Brainard.  Try 94w all the way to wisconsin.  I road a lot with Shoua, Quinn & the guys back then.  Try 11pm til 4am in the morning, anywhere from Wisconsin to Precott & back to MN.  Shoua & Quinn road a few times @ Brainard events & thats where I actually got my drag radials from is Brainard.

I've seen gixxers(750 not 600) with a pipe on dyno do well over 180mph on dyno but thats without wind drag.  & you probably would believe this also but my buddy's 2000 kawi 600 & my S2 are neck & neck on the hwy.  Rematching this summer.  I'll vid that for you guys.  LOL...

On a future note I'm picking one up next year.  Been dreamin about a Repsol(1000) or Duc(916-998), but saddly I have to settle for an R1.  I'd love to run out again with the pack.  I did get a chance to ride my buddy's gixxer 1000 with a wheel extension & power control & that thing hauls ASS!  Been just riding my friends bikes here & there.  Seems the wheel extension is a hot thing now, most of my friends bike have them.  Thats what I'll be doing to the R1 also.  Can't wait!

So Sin, I was just wondering about your speedo reading.

If you've "upgraded" the chain and sprockets, without that speedo healer-that Hmoob was talking about-your bike was running out of sync speeds with that larger sprocket up front. I mean, one tooth in front is equal to three more on the rear sprocket. So are you saying you were running corrected top end speeds with high speed tire growth and speedo error at readings above 100mph?

Title: Re: Year, Make & Model of your Motorcycle (Pics Welcome)
Post by: theking on October 28, 2009, 05:31:14 PM
I'm sure Sin is talking about indicated speedo mph and not actual as most bikes are 5-10% higher on speedo than actual.  When I took my 99' Busa to 200 MPH indicated in the Mojave Desert, I think the actual was probably closer to 185ish MPH.

Here are the specs for the 900RR (given the mods done and how light Sin looks, I wouldn't doubt "178 mph" indicated):

Hey, maybe your and your girl should trailor your bikes out next year for the ride.  I'd like to see Sin hammer it through Trooper Alley...regard less if it was midnight, or 4 in the morning.

If we're in the area again, I'll hit all yall up for a spin.  When we were at gas station in St. Paul, a black guy was cautioning us about "Janesville", WI because it's a troopers' speed trap haven.  Not sure how true but we did took it easy right after Madison to Janesville until we hit the WI/IL stateline.

Seems I hit a soft spot.  theking, you might be right speedo might be off do to front wheel but I don't know if that plays a part in speedo reading.
HmoobPahAy: yes, this was done on 94 from Stillwater back to the cities.  We rode a lot at night & at that speed who cares about the troopers then, there was about 20 of us.  178mph isn't a big deal any dumb bat out of hell can get on a crotchrocket & just rip it.  I certainly don't ride at that speed all the time or would I want to.  We did ride A LOT @ 145mph to 155mph.  We ALL we careless & didn't really care a whole lot back then about cops(year 2000).  If I rode at 110mph I was WAAAAY back in the pack.

Honestly if you don't believe 178mph you don't have to.  Thats like saying an S2 only tops out at 150mph stock yet I've seen 177mph with bolt-ons & a stretch of road.  I've seen my cousin's RX7TT @ 155mph with intake & exhaust & bro-in-law's 3000gtTT @ 150mph with intake exhaust.  Even my 88MR2sc have seen 142mph.  To top it off Quinn's 996duc has gotten to 170mph+ also(we do this side by side). Where is all this going on @? You're right, its your public HWY.

HmoobPahAy:  I don't know about any Hmong crews in MN.  When I rode a lot they didn't have crews as of yet.

Kamikaze Krew?  I've just heard about them this year, unsure who is in that crew.  If thats Shoua's group the group I use to ride with Shoua is pretty damn good.  Try wheelie @ 100mph+ & shifting gears, thats crazy.  I ran him once @ rockfalls with the MR2sc & I was halfway down the track already when he passes me doing a wheelie down the track standing up & still managed a 11.7et.  hahaha it was an awesome sight to see cause I was right next to him for a split sec.

^ wow, this really turned into who is better than who.  & yes, the guy I mentioned is good, he ran track time at Brainard too & I believe he still does.  So based on what you've said stunts are posers.  Seems you tried to flame on everything I mentioned, from speed to stunts & I even mentioned track, surprised you didn't jump on that one too.  hahaha  I'm not interested in the call out.  I ride for fun not to prove that I am hot sh|t.  So if I ride what will that prove to you?  All I said was I took my CBR900RR up to 178mph, wow.

Uh oh...
Did you actually post, " You don't have to be geared up every time. I use to ride with just shorts & shades on & shirtless."

Don't get bent out of shape here. So what of you buddy does track days. Who doesn't? I mean your pal could be doing track days and still be in the beginers group for all I know. Don't get me wrong, track days are a great tool to hone your skills, but, you miss out on reading the changes in road topography and when the corners may decrease on your apex. Those can't be taught on a track where the corners are all the same and the traction is optimal.

Now, if you're saying ATGAT is a bad thing, then what catagory are you in?

I hope it's not this group...

No need to nit pick, bro.  No gear?  Common sense.

Come to think of it...not sure if I should let you ride my 1098 S, knowing you ride without proper gear, nor not having a whole lot of experience.  If you do kick the bucket, how many cows should put on order for the funeral?  See?  Insurance does wonders...

I believe this does come down to you trying to prove who has more experience.  Never a game I wanted to play.  Life insurance?  Of course I have that.  Gear?  Of course I know what proper gear is.  I am reckless when I ride bro, if you can't deal with it thats coo but it doesn't have to do with experience.  You want to take the trophy for experience & want to prove things on here go right ahead. I don't want to turn this thread to a bashing thread. ;)

Anyone else got pics to show?  Any pics with you next to your bike/bikes?

^ I'm buying the R1 to work on it as a hobby.  It does affect handling.  Rode my buddy's Gixxer with a 6 inch extention & its just a little bit stiff on corners, but I can rip it on the hwy.  Rode another buddy's Gixxer, but was a 1000cc with the extension & power control & that thing was amazing!  FAST!

Do you think extending your swingarm will affect your steering geometry?

Damn right it will.

You'll increase the rake and trail and will also increase the steering head degree which will extend the front-like a chopper. The nimble handling will become more stable at speed but you're going to have to force it into the corner and keep forcing it to hold its proper line. That is, unless, you're getting a new-taller-shock or -longer-tie rods installed into the rear linkage to compensate for the new 6" increase. That would mean that if you wanted to keep the handling similar, your going to need to lift the rear end of the bike by 1 1/2 feet.

Lowering your bike and doing the "drag" thing it is for those who are afraid to corner...and I'm sorry for those who are frightened of lateral G loads.

Thank you for confirming your "squid status" Sin. I had a feeling that you would't have any idea of what a scrubbed tire looks like. You're just one of those Hmong dudes who gets a bike for "looks". Awe shucks.

Why do you care what I look like? I post because-unlike you Sin-I am not a squid. I can corner and don't need a 6" swingarm extension to let my feet touch the ground.

I bet you don't even work on your own bike. The 17 year old shop tech. does the work at $75.00 an hour. I bet you couldn't mic. a shim if your life depended on it...muchless change your rearsets. I'm pretty sure you may have seen tires worse than mine, only it's on a race bike. So are your tires scrubbed in or is it squared off? I suspect it's the latter.

Well done squid. You sold yourself out.

Don't worry about me. I'll make the ride. You just bring that drag bike of yours.

Jesus, whats with all the name calling & bitterness.  ;)  I'll make it out to see you shred tires & scrape knees on the corners & if you all MUST see me hit 170 then YEHA keep up!   8)

Why does it typically boil down to "proof" and "pics" and such?

Sin, prep your bike and ride.  All I look forward to your 170 on 94.   ;) :-\

If it's a pic. standing next to a bike is a "must", here's one of me next to the Z on a mountain. I must confess, I'm wearing full gear and no ankle socks or a 6" extension on my swing arm either.

Who's getting "frisky"? It's not me. After all, you don't even have a proper bike from what you proclaim.

Don't worry about putting a knee down. I can put my left hand on the pavement during left turns too. Would you like to see that? You'd better "keep up" if you want to see that.

What's the matter? Are you one of those riders that need to have a big bike to make you look like you can ride? I'm holding you to this ride Sin. You'd better not be a "no show" when the time comes?

Get that R1 running.  ;D

The last generation baby Ninja don't look as good imo but it performs better due to a bit more power and less weight than the current one.

Below is a picture of my girl's baby Ninja which was also her first bike.  I can still remembered her permanent grin on that nice day in the Spring of 2006 in Sausalito, CA  when she picked up her baby Ninja from the dealership O0 :):

I snapped a few with my daughter sitting on it yesterday before I came to work on my phone only.  I haven’t had a chance to put them up anywhere and I really want to mess with it this weekend but it looks a little booked with graduations and stuff.  But I have Monday and Tuesday off so I’m looking forward that.  It’s covered in dust because the guy had it stored in his garage for a while.

My brother drove it home for me and when we pull into the driveway, he goes “So tired.”  I asked him why and he said “It’s so slow.”  I guess when you ride a 750 and then go back to a 250 it’ll feel like that.

Looking for riding (Hmong) friends in the Twin cities. Don't mind riding with non ha-mong peeps, but would like to meet Hmong riders and whatnot.

Pocket Aces. If you can afford to, keep the baby Ninja. I've ridden my girl's old 250 in the mean streets of San Francisco several times and imo, it's a great bike in congested areas.
Also good bike to build riding skills on without the 'what if' worries like Silver-Aces' 125.

Silver-Arrowz, too bad manufactures don't offer those 125s in street legal form for the States. I think it's a great little bike to build skills without the 'what if' worries. I bet it's a hoot to ride at a tight track.

Besides the pluses above, it's also relatively cheap to buy and operational cost is low but given that Americans still have the "bigger is better" mentality, many manufactures shy away from offering those little bikes here. The Eliminator 125 was the last 125 street bike offered in the States. Besides the Aprilla 125, I think the CBR125 that's available in Canada would be a great bike to just throw around in tight corners or as a city commuter.

Mate I have no plans on selling this thing anytime too soon. It's just too much fun. Aussie have the same mentality too, more cc's = quicker bike. From my understanding Aprilia are dropping the RS125 two stroke motor and move to a 4 stroke engine to meet Euro V emissions. Gay if you ask me. I rode a CBR125 and frankly, it's a scooter engine with a bike wrapped around it. You sit very upright and it's definetly a commuter bike.

I'm rebuilding it soon (2 stroke engine) and I'm going to rejet it and derestrict it. I've had plenty of people say "it's only 125cc" but have no idea what a difference a two stroke engine makes and being 306lb (wet). The best thing is the look on their faces when the road gets twisty. (I'll proudly say that my chicken strips are much much thinner than a lot of other riders). The next rebuild I'm going to do the 150cc kit and bigger carbs. The guys in the UK are popping wheelies and leaving bigger bikes from 0-60mph.

I have no regrets about this little thing. I'm a much more accomplished rider for it because it's taught me to rely on cornering speed rather than just tip-toe in and power on out. I will move to a bigger bike for the road but this thing is going to hit the race track and maybe even compete if I can find a series.

King, I can afford to keep the baby ninja dispite what people say about the 2fiddy.  I mean its cheap to insure, I can ride the living daylights out of it like a mad man and get
200+ miles per fill up, and its fun as heck to ride. And thats what its all about, right? Having fun (dont give a shit if my bike doesnt have that 60000RRRR look)!!!

Dont mean to modify your post, but this sums it up.

*short summary about a guy (and his friends)that i rode with last season....*

I rode with a guy who lives in my apartment complex (with his friends) who started on 600+cc bikes and theyre scared to go into
corners (5+mph too fast?). I'm not saying I'm Stoner or anything, but  I'm on a 250, and these guys are on supersports, and I'm going into corners fsater than these guys., but yet
they like to talk shit about how the 250 isnt a good starter bike? Go figure? But these guys are the STunAR type guys.....

Yep, sometimes newbies buy bikes just for the looks so they can fit in whether it's the correct bike for them to start on or not...Imo, What newbies should do is take the course first to get their feet wet then find a bike they think it'll work best as a learning bike. Newbies should keep in mind that the first/starter/beginner bike is not the last bike they'll own.

The front is just a headlight lens protector I bought from Powerbronze. I usually use it on for longer trips for rock and debris protection.

This is actually the original Contour Roam. It gets the job done but is for sure lacking in quality and features when compared to the newer stuff. A buddy of mine runs the HD GPS Sony Cam and its pretty awesome.  He gets lap times from it and he gets 1080p video at 60fps. No 4k video though. I'll post a pic later of how the bike sits today.  :'(

I'll post a pic later of how the bike sits today.  :'(

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't even think of "Contour" because they went out of business like a year ago.

Yeah man. Old joint, although I do believe Contour is back in business and was announced at last year's CES?? I can't recall exactly which event. Either way, I'll be looking into investing in a GPS action Cam as well so I won't have to buy a lap timer.

Thanks for the info, good to see them back, the more options the better imo. I've only had experience with GoPro and Drift cams.
