Outdoors & Recreational Hobbies / Looking for a reel to match my 5'6" fishing pole.
« on: January 24, 2023, 03:33:54 PM »
I went to Scheels and liked two but they were overpriced for me.
Then I went to Cabela's and was recommended the President. But I didn't like it enough to spend $70.00 on it.
Dic k's had a reel by Professional at a reasonable price range that I bought. It does match my rod but something just
doesn't feel right about the match yet.
So, I stopped at Joe's today and was introduced to the Vanford and another one by Daiwai. Real smooth and nice looking.
But I told the guy there I wasn't ready to spend $239.00 or $179.00 for a reel yet.
I'm going to wait a bit and see if I might want one of those at Joe's. I can return Dic k's to its Woodbury location.

General Discussion / Recent research: alcohol is no good, whatever level.
« on: January 14, 2023, 02:13:42 PM »
Scientists say that alcohol forms acetaldehyde that both “damages your DNA and prevents your body from
repairing the damage,” Dr. Esser explained. “Once your DNA is damaged, then a cell
can grow out of control and create a cancer tumor.”
“If somebody drinks less, they are at a lower risk compared to that person who is
a heavy drinker,” said Dr. Farhad Islami, a senior scientific director at the American
Cancer Society. “Even two drinks per day, one drink per day, may be associated with
a small risk of cancer compared to non-drinkers.”
Past research that showed that alcohol was good for health came out of studies
involving people who were active in exercising, etc.
Now, it's clear that any level of alcohol is bad.
