Food Forum / Doing science in the kitchen
« on: July 08, 2020, 07:06:46 AM »
Cooking is a very scientific process:

Gotta use the recipe correctly or the mixes just won't turn out right.

Many people don't realize this and so we see lots of unhealthy and untasty stuff:

Handling foods with plain, ungloved hands--sweats and dirt from the hands blend with the foods,
Chopping cooked foods or ready veggies on the same board we have just chopped raw meats on--living bacteria,  etc. on the foods we're eating without further cooking,
Microwaving or warming foods in pots, plates or bowls that still have plastic covers on--chemicals drop from covers to foods,

Etc.

You know how a lot of Whites and Blacks have learned Hmong and even seem better at Hmong than many young Hmong?

Well, this Black chick was very confident of her Hmong and took on an interpreting assignment at the local hospitals.

A Hmong lady in her late '50s was the patient.

"Ask her how often she's been taking the medicines I've prescribed to her," the doctor said.

Interpreted, the patient said, "Kuv yeej noj xab mawm li hais mas."

"She says she's been taking them in the summer like she's been told to," the interpreter said.

"No. I've not told her to take it only in the summer," the doctor said.

Asked again and the patient said the same thing.

The interpreter said the same thing.

This repeated a few times.

The doctor brought in a Hmong interpreter who was Hmong.

"Oh, she says she's been taking it regularly like told to do," the new Hmong interpreter said. "Xab mawm is a Lao term."

Problem solved.

So, I went to this Jimmy John's and was in line behind two guys and in front of four other persons.

When it was my turn to order, I ordered  my sandwich.

"I figured," said the cashier (he later said he's the boss, too).

"I like it a lot. Well, it's the only thing I have ever tried here. But I like it a lot," I said.

All these times I never knew he paid attention to my orders. :2funny: :2funny:

This is the news on a current patient in ICU with Covid-19 today.

This sounds like a very sad day to this person and his family. They aren't related to me but I am saddened by their emotional breakdowns already. Let's all be very careful and take prevention seriously.

I see Hmong protesting when an Asian cop or White cop is involved in some way the killing of a black person. But I don't see black people protesting when a black beats up an Asian or a Hmong person.

I called a bait shop and asked about the time they open on Memorial Day.

"We're open at six," he said. "But we're not here till seven."
