Computer & Technology / Re: What is a modem? What is a router?
« on: December 31, 2011, 08:03:27 PM »
I'm serious.

Thanks. I'll look into that.

Dude are you serious?

Modem's if you got highspeed usually comes with the company.  Most of the time they are wired, meaning that you have to connect your computer to the modem via an ethernet cable.  If you want to go wireless more than likely you have to get a 3rd party router from an electronic's store and hook it up to your modem.  Then you can go wireless.  Your computer will communicate with the router(which will be wirless if you bought one that is wireless) which will communicate with your modem(which will be connected to your router via an ethernet cable and the line running out of your house to the world wide web).  So what you really want to ask the salesrep is if they offer wireless modem's.  That way you don't have to go buy a router.

So, three replies and I know everything:

Phone jack/line<-->1 Modem<-->1 WAN port<-->1 Router<-->1 LAN port<-->many devices into many jacks on the LAN port or router.

There are two-in-one modem/router combos. Wow!

Looks like I'm going to need the net provider to sell me the modem to connect to the internet. Then the rest will be my choice whether to expand to more devices or to try to access office from home.

I'll get the modem first and show you guys the picture on here so I know whether to pay for a router, too, or not. Stores have those 30-day trial or return policies. If I make a mistake, I'll return what I've bought within a week or so.

Thanks, Jimmy, Midnight and slude.

That story has been published. It's out there somewhere.

Txiv Laus Luam Mus Tua Cuam is another tiger tale.

Ntxawm Hlob thiab Ntxawm Yau (one of this sister pair versions) involves a witch fighting against a young girl, much like that tiger story you are looking for.

There's another story about a tiger and a lynx helping each other kill the king's livestock but ended up fighting each other, etc.

There's also another one about two sisters being tricked by a tiger but later the tiger got ridden by Zab.

There's one on Zab and the tiger trying to trick each other on testicles.

I am trying to sign up for an internet and I asked the sales rep of the account comes with a modem or some kind of wireless accessory so that I could connect my home computer with my work computer within 10 miles apart. She said "..it comes with a modem. You can pick up a router to make it wireless..."

What does she mean? What are those two things: modem and router?

Yeah, I'm a novice.

Thanks.

Hmong Stories / Re: Superstitions & how they came about??
« on: December 28, 2011, 10:52:32 PM »
I don't know how true. But I know some superstitions.

Pointing at the moon will get your ears cut/sliced that night when you are sleeping.

Never compete with a tiger in counting the number of stars in the sky because you will lose and the tiger will win and his stake is eating you. (While you look to the sky to count the uncountable numbers up there, the tiger only looks down at the puddle below him; he counts all of those he sees in that puddle only.)

For some Hmong, if you curse them with the phrase "Tsov tom" (literally, tiger bite), they will soon be bitten and eaten by tiger(s). (True for some sub-vang clan members, I've been told.)

I cross my feet all the time when i sleep but only when im awake. Who knows when i am KO but i do have dreams about not being able to run even when i try to run

Saki Saki is right: don't cross your legs when you sleep; if you do, you won't be able to run in your dreams.
