Here is my "Green Ranger"
She sports a 8hp Johnson with a Minnkota 34
Lowrance Electronics
Top Speed of 5mph if even that  ;D

This thing has gotten me through rough times.  Its been village bicycle for me and my buddies.  Limits of whitebass, crappies, walleyes and cats with this beast.  She starts up every time, two pulls and she's puttn'.  This also doubles as my ULTIMATE DUCK boat.  She ain't purdy but we be rid'n durrtay with this B I T C H haha!  :)   :D

do u know what it is? all performance bass boats walk, some starts to walk around mid 60's n some around the the 70's.

if u haven't then ur's is well set-up n balanced. mines not yet, it walks around mid 70's. needs more fine tuning. don't try to go faster than when it starts to walk unless u know how to control or prevent walking.

I know what chine-walking is... I was just being sarcastic. Between 60-70mph I haven't experienced it yet. Maybe I do have things balanced out pretty well... I dunno. You can try it for yourself during some outings of you want.

u added a plate? how many inches? time to raise it up some.

i'm 2" below pad, at full speed ur rooster should be about cowl height. mine sprays 12'-13' at mid speed n about 3'-4' full speed.

Post by: blablablablabla on June 17, 2009, 09:53:46 AM
I added a 6inch.  I'm not sure what I'm at but since I lowered i've been able to get my bow to lift.  I'm looking for a 24 fury.  I use to could put out a really really high roostertail full trim.  ;D

not sure what I'm set to pad but I have to mark mine like yours... :)    Rick u know much about trim extenders??  was thinking about adding to my merc for more trim and rpms.

yeah, trim extenders, all they really r is just longer stoppers. of course u knew that. but if u put 1/4" on, u lose 1/4" on down trim. they r screwed on/off. i don't remember, did u not have a plate before. maybe earlier when u couldn't get bow lift, it could be that u were too high n losing bite. how's ur speed n rpm's now?

i wanna fine tune mine too but before i do anything, i need to fix the steering shaft bushings n if............ . a big if........... for some lucky reason i win some kind of money, then i'll hydro tec mine. i should've done it when i had the funds 3yrs ago.

its going to be to heavy for livewells.  with the deck on front i added like 200lbs already.  with 36volts another about 150lbs.  2-3 people on the boat.  its pretty heavy.  i like it though.  mite need to get a new trolling motor.  shaft is too long.  any one got one sitting around?

42" is the shortest they got, isn't it? Is urs the maxxum pro so it has the lift assist shock? If so, how long have u had it?

Plus, u can always pull the shaft up.

Post by: clumzy31 on April 05, 2010, 04:43:16 PM
yea i got the maxxum pro.  had it for 2 years now.  when i sold my ranger i took it off.  i pulled the shaft all the way up its still too long.  42 is the shortest but if i were to get an older one they make shorter shafts.  just that it wont be a 101.  but i  mite just work with it.  at low percent it moves really easily so i mite just leave it.  just gotta balance out my battery weight.

i wouldn't mind having the pro model. mines not, so it's a heavy mofo.

what is your MAIN reason for buying a boat?  is it for fishing, cruising for fun with the family or skiing?  if it is mainly for fishing, then buy a fishing boat.  if it is for skiing, then buy a jet skiing boat.  if it is for fun with the family that you can cruise, then buy a cruiser.  if it is for multi uses (fishing, skiing and cruising), then buy one that serves that purpose.

I suggest a fish-n-ski boat. It's the best all around style of boat. But b4 u go out n buy one, learn how to operate one first. Last thing we want is u or ur crew getting hurt or drowning.

Apod, rent one first. Get a feel of what you enjoy. Then buy one.

Don't make a mistake of buying one you regret. I had a friend buy a leisure boat 22 footer. He had the idea of fishing and water skiing/recreation cause the wife wanted to have some fun. As months went by we never once went water skiing or wake boarding. Wife only tagged along once ><

Been fishing non-stop every weekend.  We mainly fish for northerns and bass and an occasional walleye. But in MN since the restrictions are so tough here on walleye we gave up.  We can't even go in 4ft of water to fish in heavy cover for our preferred game fish ><

If you are married don't compromise unless she is a true outdoorsman. Now he is regretting the boat  :'(

Just bought a 1986 16ft Fisher with a 28 hp engine for $1,500.  Boat, motor and trailer all included.  Not a tourney fisherman like the rest of these guys in here or that hardcore.  Been out on it a dozen times since I purchased it.  Been using my cousin's 12 ft alum. boat for the last couple of years to really get the hang of a boat.  Learned alot.  So if you're going to get a boat, don't get one that's to expensive and get one that serves YOUR purpose.   Just know that you're going to be learning how to use the boat so you're going to ding it up a bit before you really learn how to handle a boat.  O0 O0 O0

that's the kind of boat i'm looking for as a beginner. not anything expensive or fancy. i just wanna practice and do some casual fishing on the weekends. do you have any pics of your $1,500 boat?

Apod, depending on what you want or how many people you bring along with on your fishing trips.

This is just a simple 16ft aluminum bass converted boat. It's got some toys you may enjoy like radio, trolling motor, depth finder etc. This is just an example. This one is pretty well kept. Could be for the serious fisherman on a tight budget too. It lacks a bigger motor and a live well. But for the money it's a go getter.

I am not sure what kind of fish you enjoy catching but this boat can easily go into heavy cover without spooking fish.

I find that small boats are for me. I tend to fish in shallow water like bays, docks etc. I need a boat that can get right in there without having to worry about hitting bottom ><

I don't have any pics....but it is a lighter boat that allows me to get to about 2-3 ft of water and fish the shallows for bass.  Yet, it's also big enough that I can fish the rivers and deeper waters without having to worry about being flipped over.  I like the boat and find that it's well worth the money.  It kinda looks like the pics that i_am_sam posted.  But it's not green!!   ;D ;D ;D  And, I also don't find the need for a radio.  I like the peace and quiet of the rivers and lakes although my cousin has this idea of installing a system that'll bump the sh!t out of all the other boat radios out there.   Keep looking and you'll find a boat soon that meets your needs.   O0 O0 O0

that's exactly what i want. i was thinking of purchasing a used deep-v aluminum boat and converting it into a bass boat, complete with carpeted floors, a front deck, fish finder, live well, trolling motor, etc. i'm a minimalist type of person so i don't need too many fancy bells and whistles. here's an example of what i want to do:

completely strip down a 16 ft boat:

give it a nice paint job:

second view of paint job:

seal and paint the transiom:

build a frame for the deck:

marine grade wood deck:

add some seats:

complete marine-grade carpeting for the floors and deck:

all done!

that boat has a tiller motor but i want a console steering wheel in my boat. these are my plans anyway. i calculate the total cost to be around $1,500-2000 if i do everything myself.

possibly, but like i said, i'm a minimalist so i don't need the most expensive or fancy boat out there. plus i don't want to tow a big boat around all the time. just need a boat for casual weekend fishing and to avoid the hassle of shore fishermen. if money wasn't an issue though i'd probably get a luxurious fishing yacht and hit up the great lakes for salmon and lake trout.  O0

Apod just wants to elevate his game from that of a shore fisherman to that of a real fisherman.  You're starting in the right direction Apod.  And like ric said, you're going to want more soon.  I'm already looking....and that don't sit to well with the wifey!!   >:D >:D >:D

That's alot of work you want to do Apod. And from reading your posts you seem to have a limited budget. Doing custom floor boards and buying all the accessories is a nice chunk of change. Not saying you couldn't do it. Just saying it's going to cost more than you think.

With a limited budget get something that you can fish right away and avoid spending a few weekends fixing it up. That's my 50 cent.

Yep I agree once you get more serious you want bigger and badder things lol. Currently refurbishing my dad's 17 ft 1988 bass tracker. Redoing everything ground up. Welding the rusted holes, reinstalling the floor boards and refurbishing the motor and rewiring the boat since it hasn't been in use for 8years.

I thought of just buying a newer boat but since this is a sentimental boat it means alot more.

Clumsy, u do realize u're limiting the max weight of ur john. Which really means urs is a 1 man maybe 2 man boat.

3 batt for the troller, I for the crank, deck n stuff n that's 2 man weight already, sounds like u're left with enough capacity for just 1 man weight left.

Not a lot of sherrifs here actually pay attention to the weight of the boat.  I understand and believe that I'm over my capacity.  As long as my life jackats are on board I'm fine.  I've got stopped a few times and so far I've been good to go.  Anyways my max capacity is 650lbs or 3 people and ur rite ric my batters probably all together weigh 200lbs and with my deck adding another 300lbs.  With 3 people that would be adding an easily 350lbs to it to.  But oh well its fine with me.  Besides its not a regular jon boat nobmore.  Its a bass boat
