I love knives, too. I've bought them left and right. Little ones to those that are larger for the belt.

I'll get some pictures soon, too.

Why a month from now? I thought S&H only take 3-5 days only. Unless you pre-order, like how I pre- my TF.

Because I want a certain type of handle that's why. Bark river only runs on production shedule. Usually takes 6 weeks to get one if pre order.

Hey knife collectors! I want to know more about this hobby of yours. What is it about knives that make you want to collect them? Is there something particular about a knife that you look for, like the construction or material it's made out of? Or a cool feature it can do? Do you ever use them or just store them away to admire? mFREE, you also mentioned flashlights.. can you elaborate on that?

Wow. How many do you have in total? LOL I would wanna mess with a lady who knows her blades. LOL

Anyways I do have some flashlights, but only for night fishing and hunting. When I'm in the dark I need the best light that I can have without it being too bulky or heavy. And each lights has a it's own usage.

Nice!  Here's a few of mine.  Both Gerbers are spring loaded.  First pic of the knife is what I use everyday so it's a bit worn down but still works awesome!

I buy to use and collect as well. usually when i am looking into purchasing a new knife i look into the reviews of people who has used them already. mainly when i look for the type of steel, design and craftsman of the knife. Here is the chart to show the toughness of the steels and it's strenght to hold a sharp edge. The chart is provided by Crucible Steel.

For example - A2 steel which is a carbon steel but is not stainless is a tool steel that has been out for a very long time already. This steel when use to make knives can hold it's sharpness for quite some time without needing to sharpen it. A2 steel will rust if you do not put on a patina or oil it up.

CPM 3V is the toughest carbon steel out there today. it is semi-stainless. this steel can hold a edge longer then A2 as well as it's toughness. this steel will not roll but will chip unlike the A2 which will roll before chipping but is harder to sharpen because of it's tough steel.

1095 High Carbon Steel which ESEE/ROWEN uses to make their knives are a good steel as well but this steel will rust just like the A2, 01, and 3V if not properly taken care of.  There is too much to explain but hopefully that chart up there will help any of you guys who are interested in knives and plan to make future purchases. my advice is stay away from stainless steel like 440C and CPM S30V. They are weak. CPM S35VN is the upgraded version of these stainless steel.

Anways back to the flashlight thing. here is a picture of the lights i currently own. i had way more but my wife was complaining so i sold 4 of them to some buddies co/worker.

LEFT to RIGHT: EagleTac T20C2, FENIX TK11 R5, FENIX TK11 R5, FENIX TK11 R5, FENIX TK11 R5.

These lights uses these type of batteries which are 18650 3100mAh rechargeable. these batteries cost a arm and leg for it. 23 bucks for one and i have 14 of them  O0

Nice stuff. Thanks for the eagletac product. Never knew it existed...  ;D I am looking for a flashlight that is small and powerful. 1030 lumen led. Getting this one... Those knive, I collect from cheapo knive that I found in big 5 sporting. I like the winchester set for a good 20$... Lost a rambo knive while hunting so I am looking to get me another one. Thinking about a mechete so I can use it to cut high brushes. Another one might consider is the hmong knive.

Jetbeam bc40 for 830 lumens at 79 bucks I believe is a good deal. Another good one is the fenix tk35 at 800 lumens is good too but piced a bit higher. Don't get a hmong knife, those knives are not heat treated properly and will chip on you. If you want a nice machete look at the ESEE JUNGLAS. You will not be dissapointed with its quality, warranty and the owner is kool as hell.

Lights with regular batteries are cool enough for me. But they have to be in the 200+ lumens capacity.

The flasglights I own also takes cr123a batteries(photo batteries) but why waste 10 bucks for two all the time when I can use the 18650 rechargeable to take full advantage of the lights power. Its expensive but when you use it a lot its worth the money in the long run.

@saki, no, I don't collect swords. Its too big and I don't see no use for it. I only buy things I can use.

@gnam, I don't believe most buck knives are collectable unless you are looking at the ones that are are no longer made. If you want some thing that you can collect and worth something down the stretch maybe look into custom hand mades such as chris reeves, fiddlebacks, and others out there but they will cost around the 300 range.

Mfree,
Swords do have some purpose for me. I use to get sit a lot wen I lived at my Mt. Airy home and with my swords it gives me strength to fight those MOFO Fats.
I like the rechargeable batteries too, but I like the the throw away ones. It's easy for me. With the recharge, I can't loose it or throw it away.

Bro, don't ever buy these from amazon, ebay or such auction sites. It is a rip off. Go here if you want a good deal on a brand new esee 6 http://www.the-knife-connection.com (http://www.the-knife-connection.com) I've bought knives from many online retail owners and there only two guys I trust. One is dale stoops from the knife connection other is jason thoune at dlttrading.com but he don't deal esee like dale. 120+free sh is a steal. Other retailers sell at 127 and up + you have to pay sh. Hope you find something that fits your needs.

Nice, I like that in a blade. I have 2 of the huge Winchester blade that i use but the blade get dull. Therefore I strap 2 stone sharpers on each case. I hate it wen I have a dull blade and with no way of sharpen it.

I also had a very nice Hmong knife that I bought from J4 a long long I don't know how many long ago. And I never even had to sharp that edge. most straight blades will lose it's sharpness. But that I have to give it a thumps up.

I made my first folding knife purchase! I love the speed safe on this thing. The blade flips out sooo buttery smooth using your index finger. I don't intend to become a collector. It's going to be my main carry for camping, hunting, and fishing.

I'm a bit concern about those folding blades. I know it was made with top quality, however I'm scare that the blade can fold back while you are cutting. instead of cut what you wanna cut, and end up chopping off all your fingers due to the blade snap'n back.

Depends on how the knife is made. My buck as a strong piece of metal that locks the blade from accidental switch. All top brands usually are made like this even the Benchmade ones. I will take a pic and show when I have time.

I made my first folding knife purchase! I love the speed safe on this thing. The blade flips out sooo buttery smooth using your index finger. I don't intend to become a collector. It's going to be my main carry for camping, hunting, and fishing.

lol yea that's how it starts huh? I just want 1 more fixed-blade knife and maybe an axe then I think I'm good.   ;D This whole time I've been using hmong knives only.

It feels pretty safe. I won't be using it for any heavy workloads. It's perfect for field-dressing and skinning animals.

It's good to have a different types of design knives laying around when you need it. One for batoning and the other for slicing. I have yet to find a really good folder I really want though I like the Benchmade Subrosa and have yet to pull the trigger..

Hey considering you have a nice collection already I think you're fine without a folder. Unless you need an everyday carry that fits in your pocket? To be honest I rarely carry knives with me, only when I'm out doing some outdoor stuff.

I need a nice folder that i can put in my car or EDC with me. I also EDC a flashlight as well. I just hate the fact that some times you think you don't need it but end up needing it.

oh because they have this one gathering call "Grind In" about three times a year up in the UP MI. you can custom make your own knife design. it's quite interesting if you are looking for a special design knife. I am heading up there this coming March 2014.

Not exactly Rambo's but something similar.

Very sharp.

I'm adding my special things to the handle: stronger fishing lines, strike-anywhere matches (those the cowboys used to just strike on their pants to ignite), and a few more.

I have a few of my own too and will try to show them when I have some time.

What do you use to sharp them? I'm a waterstone guy so all my knives are done on Japanese waterstones. Currently have 200, 400, 1k, 2k, 3k, and 7k. I usually finish them off in the 1k or 2k stone and strop with black and green compound on the leather strop. Scary sharp!

Haven't been on here for a while but since I just got a new knife a couple of days ago, thought i'll share it with everyone. It's a Bark River Bushcrafter in 3V with curly maple wood handle and condvex scandi grind. This is a awesome knife but the price is pretty high for a knife this size. I love the blade so can't complain  :)

I really like the blue one the most, it has a good heff. behind the hilt and a good balanced  blade. I think I paid $296-300 I don't remember where I got it from. It was from a martial store. They also had ones with the real eel skin wrap on the handle. for like 400-500.. The prize one that I want to get is the one that was forge with copper and steal or iron, sumting like tat. It's folded multi times of layers to give it a well made balance and strength. Which goes for 1000, Too much for me.

Yes, those are crazy prices for a small knife. The blur ironwoods handles are the most expensive. Them steels CPM 3V are from here in the states. The company that makes these knives are up in escanaba michigan(UP).

Lon Humphrey Deathwinds
If I had to carry one knife while hunting, this is the one. 8" blade on 5160 high carbon steel. I've hacked on bones with no problem. Comes with a micro edge which I then slightly regrind, keeping it's large convex. Very good for heavy duty hacking. Doesn't stay as sharp but I have other knives for that purpose.

Bark River Loveless Hunter

This little guy helped skinned many game animals. Very nice for skinning and breaking down an animal. Made out of A2 for easy sharpening. If no edge damage, I usually just strop it on the leather and it's ready to be used again....

Bark River Trail Buddy I and III

Great combination but the Trail Buddy III was just a little to big to be a carried knife so I re-grinded the knife to resemble a Hmong knife. Both are A2 steel. Great for general use but the edge will easily roll if I hack on bones the way we do it at home. Good overall general use. Nothing compared to the heavy work that can be done using the Deathwind.

Saki,
Thanks. A few years ago, I could not understand why anyone would fork out several hundreds for a single knife. Today, I'm one of those guys. The more you research about them, the more you want to have them.

Lon Humphrey Brut de Forge
I love the .23" thickness on this knife. 10.5" knife with a 5" blade. The design of the handle is pretty unique and it forces the user to hold it with the thumb on the spine. Nice quality but I'm not use to holding small knives this way.

I get a few hogs every year and have seen them in 300+ lb.

Here are my Mora knives. Cheaper knives but I can't complain when they can be had for $10-30 only. I use these for my fishing trips. Black handled is the Mora Bushcraft Survival and the green is the Mora 2000. I love the feel of the Mora Bushcraft but both blades are for light use only. I get a lot of chips and rolls on these knives.

I'm also a big fan of Hmong knives but they're hit or miss deals, mainly misses. Most of the forgers don't know exactly what type of steel they are using so they follow the same process of heating and tempering. Sometimes they turn out right. Other times they're worthless. I got a local guy to build me one out of D2 tool steel. This is the middle knife in this picture. The other two are for slicing and general cut around the kitchen only. Can't do any heavy work on these.

These are the Japanese water stones I use. Naniwa Superstones and Masamoto. I actually visited the Masamoto knife shop in Tokyo earlier this year and bought the stone from there. Regretting I didn't pick up a few kitchen and sushi knives.

mFree,
Great buy. My next knife, I'm debating between the Gunny Hunter and the Bravo LT. I'll probably end up with both in the long run.

My gunny elmax should be here in two weeks or so.. i had this preorder last summer already. Should be a great knife with this new steel. The bravo 1 LT i think is perfect compare to the original version which is thick as heck. I'm thinking about sending it in to get a full height conversion done to it.

I like your Hmong knives.  Can you hook me up with the Hmong blacksmith?  PM me if it's too personal to share on this thread.
