Ugly Stik Carbon Catfish Spinning Rod

Here's one to think about and almost unheard of for catfishing.  Normally people want the fiberglass poles that bends for catfishing.  Well this one is graphite so it's more like just for normal lure fishing and stuff.  Unfortunately they gone back to using just stainless steel line guides with no inserts.  Sure it's more reliable for tough treatment, but that also means it will shred your braid lines more so too.  Guess what also, the price hike on these rods.  They expected you to pay a retail of $90.

Weird lengths available in MH 7'6" and H 9'6" are gonna be different for comparison of other rods.

Compared to the old Ugly Stick Catfish rod in white that retailed for $50.  The old one had ceramic inserts plus glow inserts in the upper tip section, while current model went to trash with plain stainless steel line guides and no inserts.

Ugly Stik Catfish Special Spinning Rod

Which is kind of a duplicate of the standard white Catfish rod, only they expanded with additional longer lengths available in 9', 10', and 12' lengths and it's orange colored or copper orange.  While getting an increased price tag of $60.

I was thinking about checking out some updated products but with the cheaper stainless steel line guides, nah nope.  Unless one wants to replace their braid lines often.

The biggest change up is having an open bottom butt - hole.   ;D

Meaning people have to be extra clean and don't set this rod down on the ground or for that matter don't go fishing in the rain either.

I still think the first generation of PA rods were much better looking.  Never owned one, cuz they were so scarce.

Shimano Poison Adrena BFS Casting Rods $379.99

6'10" Light power XF tip action and in Casting.  I think this will definitely be the next rod. 99.9% will be on my shopping list.

I have to compare that to the old St. Croix Legend Tournament casting rod 6'10" ML XF casting rod - the dropshot/finesse badge.  Really is a very very good rod blank.  Just that St. Croix did it wrong with the large handle grips and reel seat.  Really they designed it for people with XL or XXL hands and those with lead dead hand sensitivity.  And St. Croix hasn't produced this rod for like nearly over 10 years or something.  Strangely St. Croix still has a secretly produced Premier casting 7' ML like forever.

Still have to consider the

Shimano Expride 6'8" light @ $279.99

or budget

Shimano Zodias BFS Casting 7' light @$219.99

Shimano Curado 6'8" light @ $179.99

Phenix Classic BFS 6'8" light @ $189.99

*******

I know budget rods will get the job done.  Just doesn't offer the same enjoyment of use like from the refinement of top tier rod.  St. Croix Premier rods will always have that spot of doing the job and getting it done right.

I have two that have been carefully chosen: 1. a 7' hard power, fast action G. Loomis rod that is great with bigger catches--anything
from a carp to a cat and
even the sturgeon, and 2. a St. Croix medium power, fast action 6'8" rod that is good for anything like a smelt to the trout of
any size, the largemouth bass and the white bass.

Until I live near one of the oceans, I will not need to buy any more
fishing rod. I just need to know where the fish are.

I have a 3000 Daiwa Ballistic reel for the  big catches and a 2500 Shimano Stradic reel for the other pole.

I don't have the constant urge to buy any additional pole or reel. I just go look at more but my heart
isn't into buying anymore.

Right now, I'm using a 65-lb braid for the big fish pole and 10-lb Seaguar flouro for the small catch pole. I'll
just put lower poundage leaders  for crappies and other panfish.

So, I'm all set for life until I move to Seattle.

Every year, Joe's Sporting goods has awesome sales, but their selection is getting really lousy.  As much as I would like to support local.  It may seem that I may need to turn to online ordering more so.

There was practically no fishing poles left on the floor.  The selection of G.Loomis, Shimano, Diawa, and St. Croix was down to weird obscure selection.  As it goes, that sometimes, they hide the good stuff - as it's already spoken for.  Maybe it's the old bait and switch.  Get the customers int he door and show them crap only.  At such a good 50% off, maybe the customer will just buy the crap.  I'd bet that come around Blaque Friday, some stuff will just miraculously appear.

and as sometimes goes, I find some really good stuff, after the sale date = with a discounted price still on it.

Online is more resourceful.

Just be sure to quickly test the merchandises
so that you could still return them if you
don't like them.

I sort of don't have any desire to buy anything new, after waiting all this time.

Ah screw it, whatever.  May as well treat myself to unnecessary purchase.  :D

And so the Shackle Warehouse has the iron chain of ball order is placed.  No hurry on delivery, it's not like I can use the rods until next spring/summer anyways.

Looks like the long wait...is still waiting.  :D

As long as it's properly delivered and not broken.

It'be been delivered and not broken.  I'm impressed that the packaged delivery came in intacted.  Best packaging I've seen so far.  In the past the packaging has been shotty and I'm just lucky enough that nothing was broken.

Out of the package, preliminary review...

Shimano Poison Adrena BFS Casting Rod $379.99
PAD1610LBFSB
Rod weight 3.03 oz.

6'10" Light power XF tip action.  10 line guides plus tip.  Line guides are small, a Spro #10 swivel will not fit through the tip guide and the few from the tip.  Features the new open butt port hole that is supposed to give better vibration resonance feed back.  The new design locking nut is way better than the previous rods.  It actually almost mimics the Expride's locking nut, but only made of carbon fiber and aluminum alloy.  Also now this rod has a hook keeper.  Personaly I always find that rod manufactures always puts the hook keeper in the worst possible position or place.  It's on the down side of the blank and just above the locking nut.  So you can actually touch if with your finger on the rod blank.  That's terrible for me.

Shimano Expride 6'8" light BFS Casting Rod $279.99
EXC68LBFSB
Rod weight 3.38 oz.

6'8" Light power Fast tip action.  10 line guides plus tip.  Line guides are small too, but a Spro #10 swivel will fit through all the of guides and tip.

With empty rod, and just finger tapping the butt stock portion, I feel that the Expride actually has a more pronounce blank vibration feedback.  Well that throws out the better vibration feedback on the more expensive Poison Adrena rod, but that's just the empty rod.  Nearly same testing with finger tapping on the blank just above the reel seat and again, seems like the Expride has a more pronounce vibration feedback.  Also visual cue even with my bad eyes, I see that the Expride has more rod vibration movement over that of the Poison Adrena to include a slightly longer vibration periond.  That's because the Expride is an exposed sanded down blank while the Poison Adrena has a clear flex coating on the the blank.

The quick line thread flex test.  Well the Expride has more rod line rubbing.  Seems like the Poison Adrena seems to have a slight more rod tip secton to it thus a little less rod line rubbing between the line guides.  Torson rolling check and yeah, better confirmation of the Poison Adrena less line rubbing.  Typical of casting rods and I wish they adopt the rod guide spacing of that from St. Croix where they use like 14 line guides plust tip from a few certain rods featuring micro guides.  While the line guides are not listed as micro guides on these Shimano rods, well if that Spro #10 is not fitting through, it falls into the micro guides sizing.

Well going forward, I guess I won't have the need to mismatch my casting reels on my light power spiinning rods.

I ordered a Loomis rod online. It turned out good.

But I don't want to order online too much. I also
already have enough rods for anything. Two that
are very versatile. Three, I mean.

So, maybe one more rod and that will be it!  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

Gotta think hard about spending a few hundred
bucks more on this.
