Title: Man convicted in 2012 assault on newspaper carriers in Meadowview area

A 24-year-old man accused of participating in a 2012 incident in which shots were fired at two Sacramento Bee newspaper carriers has been convicted by a Sacramento County jury.

Xou Thao was found guilty Tuesday of aiding an abetting the shooting of an occupied vehicle, and aiding and abetting the assault with a firearm on the carriers, who Xou and a companion mistook for rival gang members, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release.

Thao and Xong Moua, 19, saw the carriers delivering papers at 3:45 a.m. Jan. 2, 2012. They thought the carriers were rival gang members because they were wearing bandanas to shield their faces from the cold weather, authorities said.

Thao drove next to the victims and stopped the car so his passenger, Moua, could fire numerous shots at the carriers’ vehicle. Bullet holes were found in the victims’ vehicle and houses on the street following the shooting, authorities said.

According to a story in The Sacramento Bee, the shooting occurred in the 7600 block of Detroit Boulevard in Sacramento’s Meadowview neighborhood. The carriers were not injured.

Moua previously pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon or firearm and was sentenced to 19 years in prison. Thao is to be sentenced May 15.

Why do every gentlemen turn to gang? It benefits nothing and will only cause more harms to both them and their love ones. Lyn hope they turn their life around and become good citizens in the end.
