Lychees
by Lilly
Lychees,
Where do I begin?
You and I go way back to that time when
I found the Refugee Camps in Thailand
You came to me when I was only a butterfly
Seven trips around the sun
Ready to savor the world as the world was new
How should I tell you all the ways I love you?
Your home is where the sun shines bright
Where the ocean is close
You are as sweet as you are white
When I peel you open
There you are
A true beauty!
Your white juicy flesh screams, Eat me!
And I do!
I love your generosity!
Your juice squirting all over
Spreading your love
Dripping your honey
Please, lychees, please don’t ever leave me!
Once a year is such a long wait to see you again
I suffer without you!
Do you not feel my pain?
Say you’ll stay by my side
For all the days of my life
