one of the good things about mac is that it hardly gets a virus. My bro has his mac for 5 years been downloading a lot of crap and hasnt gotten any virus i got my laptop for 2 months and its already detecting virus trying to get through

"pc aka "peoples computer"... its more of a friendly user computer... easy to use and cheap to own... plus lots of gaming companies prefer to make their games for pc because their licensing is cheap and flexible...

mac... more high tech and very strict... thats why it doesnt have much virus... and the strictness also leads to companies preferring to making programs(games, etc...) for pc instead because its cheaper and easier to do so... but companies that prefer privacy leads towards mac(business, etc...)

PC for browsing and downloading stuff and general use.  I use my MAC for my music studio, my photography profession and the occasional movie editing.  PC for fun, MAC for work.

Yet another FAIL  :2funny: :2funny:

your professors need to take some advanced computer tech courses then...  To tell others Apple Macs are more advanced high tech/stricter is completely bull. You do know Macs uses a PC CPU vs the old G series CPU right? Yeah, Macs uses Intel CPUs and INTEL = PC CPU so in short, MACs are not more advanced. APPLE has brainwashed so many people(AKA average users) that Apple MACs are the professional level for the professionals. I can give a ton of reasons why a PC will run circles around a MAC any day of the week, but i don't have time tonight. The price is the first......

Here is something quick for you. Do you know why MACS barely get any viruses/spywares and such? Well yeah, if MACs were as popular as PCs(Windows OS), it would be getting viruses left and right. Virus/spywares wouldn't accomplish much if they wrote viruses/spywares for an OS that so few people actually use.

Linux OS gets less viruses/spywares, if any, vs windows OS because of the same reason stated above. Is it more secured? i doubt it.

google........ plenty of answers for you..

From experience speaking with some professionals who uses MACs for multimedia purposes, they're just users...  Those people are still behind... The phrase, "MACS are better for multimedia" WAS true back around when i still run a 333mhz Intel Celeron CPU in my PC.. :'(   I won't list all the reasons, but a few reasons why some people still think MACs are better than PCS are:

-APPLE has brainwashed them. They've never done any real time benchmarks.
-APPLE loyal fans
-They are just users and doesn't know anymore than what's in front of the screen..

Amazingly, the engineers at my workplace all use PC's for their 3D Cad + other 3D drawing programs. I can tell the head IT manager knows his shiet and always up to date..

same bull reason as the reps at the APPLE store told me. MACs are just faster (faster? no!)  and more productive (true to a certain extent since less prune? (spelling?) to viruses and such = less clean up), but that's about it. Companies who aren't quite up to date still believe MACs are the preferred choice. IF you look closely at the overall picture, PCs (may not always have a Window OS, but still a PC) are still more widely used especially when it comes to networking. There is not a single MAC in my workplace.

oh great...i always tell myself to stay out of this.. Hang around some computer forums and read around and while you will hear from both sides, you will understand where i am coming from. Oh yeah, did i mentioned that many companies who uses MACS actually have windows OS installed too? Yes you can use windows in a MAC with the right setup and software. Not even sure if it's possible, but i have never used the MAC OS in my PC setups before nor knew anyone who did..

anyways, gotta go play some games... choose what's best for you and what you think it's best... personally, I'd got for a PC. Yes, i've used MACS many times over and over before. With a PC, there are plenty and plenty of more parts for it.... cost less and does the same as a MAC and more in most cases.

check out www.newegg.com Mostly PC parts, right? yeah. I must admit though. The only reason I bought an Iphone a while ago was due to it's awesome look. Sold it a month later. I do give props to Apple for making such awesome designs though which most Apple users are attracted to.

good luck and tell me  what APPLE will charge you to replace/repair the "Apple only hardwares" when they do FAIL because you couldn't find those parts in your usual PC/computer hardware sites/stores.

itd be wiser to ask... just going along with it because others do it is not smart... but it seems you also do your own research too... i just hope you do it for both sides before you come to a conclusion...

its never dumb to ask... (besides repeated asking of the same question to the same person in not enough time frame in between...)

anyways, gotta go play some games... choose what's best for you and what you think it's best... personally, I'd got for a PC. Yes, i've used MACS many times over and over before. personally id go for a pc too for an everyday use... but if i ever do any computer base business, ill consider mac more so than pc...

and the personal experience i was told from my professors were that when they designed a program... they sent it to mac and mac gave them a 2 inch thick booklet full of standers they have to meet and privacy contracts they had to sign with an over all expensive licensing price which was going to take lots of time to get it all done... so they said fawk it and went to pc... and pc charged them less and handed them a small booklet of standers... but they didnt even fill out the booklet nor sent it in and they already got approved... just goes to show the strictness of pc and mac from experience...

good luck and tell me  what APPLE will charge you to replace/repair the "Apple only hardwares" when they do FAIL because you couldn't find those parts in your usual PC/computer hardware sites/stores.

like i said... peoples computer... average user... (dont mistaken it for average minded users...)

actually PC stands for "personal computer". look it up if you don't believe me. A mac is essentially a PC if you asked me since it's base core program or whatever you call is is basically linux. Type in a couple linux commands in a MAC and it will work. Someone correct me if i am wrong, but i am sure ....

here is a link which listed MACS > PCs

read some of the user comments.

My aunt used to own a dinosaur apple/IBM computer. I remember those annoying drop-list window tabs. Im gald mactinosh diverge from those slow ass window features.

If I could remember MAC doesnt have those shortcut keys. Like the alt +c/ alt +p...etc..

Ill stick to what Im already use to and thats PC.

Macs are cute but they costs so much.

You can install Windows on mac using bootcamp.  You then can run your favorite games on it.

I have Mac OS X, Windows 7, and Linux on this Macbook Pro.  It was given to me.

The "Global Market Share Statistics" study showed that browsers powered by Windows, with all versions accounting for 91.34 percent. The second-place holder, Mac OS X, declined somewhat to an even 5.00 percent, less than any variant of Windows, with Windows 7 at 15.87 percent, Vista at 14 percent and the venerable XP still holding strong at 60.89 percent. iOS made up 1.13 percent of the total last month, edging all flavors of Linux - the former number three - which accounted for only 0.85 percent and blowing away Android-based browsers which had just a 0.2 percent share.

maybe you can explain why more business that have to deal with computers go with mac instead of pc...

Dude what companies are you referring to besides Apple?  I've been at large cap, medium cap, and start up companies and they are ALL PCs.  Every job I have interviewed for in the bay area has requested for PC experience.... no one cares about Macs.

The only people at my company that use Macs are the graphic designers, but I think PCs can easily do the same job.

Sorry dude, the business world is powered by PCs...it delivers more than enough computing power at a fraction of the cost of Macs.

PC - Business
Macs - Toys

i can understand why companies would go pc than mac because theyre cheaper and more people would buy pc for the same reason which in turn companies would prefer pc experience users...

but the question was... "business that have to deal with computers"... not "business that uses computers"... maybe i wasnt clear enough?...

so can you ask those companies why they go pc instead of mac?...

i like mac because that's all i have ever used.... i learnt my designing on a mac, my work place uses macs.... so it made sense to get a mac.

one time, i used my bro's sony laptop and couldn't figure out how to create a new folder on the desktop so i could save some fotos in there.... it took me 15 minutes to figure out and i have since forgotten how.

also, when i'm at a coffee shop eating a crepe and drinking perrier because i don't drink coffee, and i pull out my macbook pro, all the chicks want to jump my bones. and even some guys too.

i've used both PC (Piece of Crap) and MAC's

PC at home and MAC at work (for design work)

my choice: MAC > PC

someone in here needs to go to a MAC store.
put a fast MAC against a fast PC and i will guarantee the PC will lose.

Oh...lol, I thought you wanted to do benchmarks...l ike futuremark, 3dmark, GPU/CPU, temp, calculations, FPS and other stuff like that.

If you are talking about loading to the desktop only.  My computer does it in about the same time, assuming skip the log in.  But that is more Windows vs Snowleopard (or whatever Mac OS you are using).

I thought you meant PC vs Mac overall...not just the operating system.

PC over Mac any day.
I was an employee of Apple during the transition stage over to Intel. The reason Apple switch from the IBM G5 processor was lack of speed and heat issue(even IBM dont ship machine with their processor). They were not able to come up with a new processor to meet the demand for speed and applications that PC had.
They gave up on their processor and switch over. The new mac you use today have the exact same component as a PC, but at a higher price tag. As far as operating system goes, Mac OS is just another version of Unix with the added support. The new OS is also built around the Intel architecture, so yes you can hack the Mac OS into a PC and vice versa.
I can get a PC install Linux and claim that PC dont have virus.
People always get the ideas that Mac dont have virus. Well like someone stated before, not enough user for hacker to care about.
The same deal with web browser.
Even though i work for Apple I still love my PC.
When you want to upgrade you can just add what ever you want to it.
Need a new video card, pop old one out and add new one in.
Mac make look nice and if you have the money to blow on a Mac go for it.
In the End their all the same on the inside "MADE IN CHINA".

I like my Mac.  I've been running Winblows OS for so many years and it's taught me one thing: Microsoft makes a garbage operating system.  Hardware is always the same from computer to computer but I learned something interesting about the Mac PC (that's PERSONAL COMPUTER), they're pretty durable.  I've squashed it and even dropped it; turned it on and boom--fired right up.  Drop a Dell, Acer, Gateway or HP and you better hope that at least the HDD will be salvagable after that mishap.

IF you want a robust operating system, I think you should explore a Unix; same thing MacOSX is built on; at least Linux Mandrake or RedHat.  Or better yet, Ubuntu.  Why not?  It's free.  I don't quite understand this debate of PC vs. Mac.  It should be more like: MacOS/Unix vs. Winblows.  There are Unix based drafting software out there; you're not always confined to AutoCAD/Microstation or CAD/CAM.  Same with word processing and spreadsheets.

It's true that Apple PC's have been using Intel chips but it was more a marketing strategy to migrate people or my belief (cause people to refuge away from Winblows).  Just a way to wean people off of that godforsaken microsoft garbage.  If the learning curve of the MacOS gets too overwelming for some people who are SOOOO pro-Winblows (like soulless), they can simply switch back by bootcamp.

KE,

M$ owns the world because they are marketing genius.  Like Apple is today.  Apple will sell you a PC for 2x the price and paint it white.   :2funny:

Sure...

But I don't have to learn to fix over and over and over again.

this debate has been beaten to death and this is probably like the 100th times i've debated about this with people since who knows when..  :2funny: And yeah, it's exactly why the majority of users(all levels)+businesses still prefer PC's over MAC's any day of the week. /End of argument.  :2funny:

It's okay to admit that a PC-windows OS is for the more advanced users who actually know what they're doing...OF course, when we don't fully understand something, we  think it's garbage. I'm not a Mac fan but never called it a piece of garbage.  O0 ;D I love it when Mac users tell me Windows sucks cuz it's more prone to viruses.. WEAK!  :2funny: I love it even more when those sales people in the Apple store would try to feed me a load of BS..  :2funny:

i'm not rich like you so i can't afford a MAC that cost 2-3times as much as a PC with the same specs  :2funny:  BTW, I know how to use a Mac too.  O0  I'm bored.

You don't get the point.

Hospitals and the army are exploring the use of the ipad to help doctors and patients.  You need to think outside of the box or you remain stuck with PCs forever.

Yes, but why it took Apple to think about applying it to the laptops while the PC can't even think of it?  I bet you never thought about it.    At least I never thought about it.

Bill Gates loves the iPhone and but doesn't feel the same way about the iPad.

The conclusion Gates reached should reassure everyone at Microsoft: "It's not like I sit there and feel the same way I did with iPhone, where I say, 'Oh my God, Microsoft didn't aim high enough.' It's a nice reader, but there's nothing on the iPad I look at and say, 'Oh, I wish Microsoft had done it.'"

"You know, I'm a big believer in touch and digital reading, but I still think that some mixture of voice, the pen and a real keyboard – in other words a netbook – will be the mainstream on that," Gates told BNET. Strictly from a consumer point of view…

I like my mac. I like relationship (http://www.jumsoft.com/relationship/), quicksilver (http://www.blacktree.com/), and terminal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Terminal). I like how itunes (http://www.apple.com/itunes/) seems lifeless on windows but magical on a mac. I like geektools (http://projects.tynsoe.org/en/geektool/), expose & spaces (http://www.apple.com/macosx/what-is-macosx/expose.html), and growl (http://growl.info/). I like that (with care) my mac will maintain a relatively good resale value. (http://www.macworld.com/article/142237/2009/08/save_mac_resale_value.html) I like that I don’t have to install daemon tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/downloads) to run iso files. I like my shiny display when I’m working in LightRoom (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/) and I enjoy the ease of iLife (http://www.apple.com/ilife/). What I’m trying to say is, I like being productive without compromising my creativity. Now, that is not to say I think one is superior to the other. I grew up owning windows, went to school with windows, and for a good chunk of college I used windows and that was enough… until I realize I’ve seen too many BSoD, experienced too many viruses, and my (valuable) time was spent on waiting rather than producing.

I think we can all agree that the majority of consumers who use any computer functionality are strictly limited to the quotidian: surfing online, emailing, chatting, etc… Unless you’re a fraction of the population who spends 70-80% of your time in front of a computer for a living (programming, designing, writing, etc…) it’s difficult to extrapolate any internal differences between the two. So for the most part, I think owning a mac or pc should depend on one’s usage. This thread might as well argue which ice cream flavor is best.

That said, I will admit that Apple has managed to mass-market individuality brilliantly just as Starbucks has managed to produce culture out of fast-food coffee to a more younger, trendier, and fashion conscious generation. You can’t blame a business for being successful and knowing its consumer.
Maybe you're referring to rich college kids with rich parents. Personally, the mac users I know are not rich. We just demand something different from our computing experiences. Someone once told me this, if you want a good car you don’t go to the Ford or GM dealerships, you visit the foreign ones. How is this any different than wanting a good investment in a laptop/computer? As a matter of fact, I’ll say those who own pcs are the more well off since they can afford to keep fixing or buying new machines while mac owners can’t afford to replace ours every so often.

By far the best comment on this thread!  O0

Apple is good at marketing but it's safe to say that that marketing doesn't do much for their computer lineup. Now iPhones, iPods, and iPads are a different story. i work downtown MPLS and as i leave work in the morning i see people of all ages from people in business suits to people at starbucks and u can see how popular the iPhone, iPods, and iPads have become. if any of them have a laptop it's most likely a Windows (very easy to spot if it's a Mac). go to a Apple store or Best Buy and you'll see people play with the iPhone/iPad more than the Macs. iPads are already projected to sell more than Macbooks.

Chill people...can't believe all these rants just about Mac vs. PC.  Mac and PC both do the same damn thing.  PC is business oriented and dominated by Microsoft.  Mac is graphics oriented and dominated by Apple.  Other than that...both perform the same task...

I've got a PC that's dual booting windows 7 and OSX.. Does that make my computer a PC/MAC?   :D

I'm sure a mac can do just likely the same, but mine has just about the same specs if not better than some macs and didn't cost me an extra 1k. The only difference I can really see is that a Mac has a sleekier design and is more attractive to the eye... but that's not enough to make me want to pay a few extra grand for.

What's your make and model and what version of osx86 are you running?  I have Kaly 10.5.1 on my 700m; not dual-booting or anything, everything works except for my resolution.

And here I thought you were an engineer or scientist.  Opps...you must be artsy fartsy.

Not sure why you feel engineers and scientists lack creativity and appreciation for beautiful things.   I thought scientists always preach about making things beautiful and simple.

The elegance and style of a mac is very important to mac users as much as every other aspect of their life

Personal preference aside, I think it's imperative to know how to work both in today's world.

I agree.

All the jobs I've ever had, using computers, were  with PCs and they were fine.  I've been using a macbook for over 4 years now (the same one) to do everything and it has worked great.  It is still fast.  I know it's personal preference, and  I prefer MACs because it does what I need and I don't have to worry about buying parts, running the virus scan weekly, purchasing an updated virus scan software every year, defragging, etc.    MACs are not the greatest thing in the world (I've had my share of problems) but for people who don't like to mess with parts or installing this and that, etc, it's a good investment.

.....i've never had to scan my pc for viruses weekly or defragg weekly etc..... :idiot2:

but yes it is personal preference, it isn't so much that people think macs are bad, its that a lot of people think they're overprice when compared to the pc counterpart

This topic is worthless. Both have their values.  if the topic was civics vs s2000 maybe I be able to understand since civics seem so common like PCs and according to arguments here would be doing what Macs and s2000's so but cheaper.

that anology wouldn't work.  the real anology would be stock civic A vs a stock civic B with a s2000 shell over it.  same internals and everything, same performance and everything you just pay a shit load more for the s2000.  but you're not allowed to tune the stock civic B with a s2000 shell on, vs the other stock civic A that can be tuned with different parts, shells etc and so on to make it run better/faster etc.

I recommend someone who knows very little about computer to go the mac rout.  Initial investment in a mac is high but it is worth not having the stress of dealing with malware and other problems.  Plus, a mac has the cool and wow factor and a beautiful body.  Apple controls what hardware they put into the mac and this helps eliminate many hardware issues.  When you think about a Mac, you think about the package, the operating system, and the style put together.

I do not recommend a beginner to use a PC (or just Windows) to do important tasks such as doing banking or online shopping.  Beginners are most easily fooled by email attachments, and malware pretending to be virus scanner software.  Many of them did fall for these and did pay.  Your chance with a Mac of having this problem is almost zero.  A beginner with a Windows machine is just bad news.

Intermediate users and gamers may use Windows knowing that they can always restore the hard drive to factory default.  Most Windows laptop these days come with a factory restore partition so that you can restore your computer to the way it was when you first bought it.  Just remember to back up your important documents and files before doing the restore.  I often use the restore partition because it is much much faster than finding a problem and removing it.  Still, these people must be very careful.  Software that works to steal your bank account are not necessary visible.   You should buy security software.

Then there are those who have a mac and they installed Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux on it.   I personally find GNOME on Linux extremely easy to use although for beginners, they won't know how to get flash, mp3, java,  DVD video support on their Linux.

PC's cost less. Mac these days are pretty much x86 architecture which means Mac OS X can/will run on PC's hardware. I have a solution for all, 1) Buy a PC 2) Dual boot Windows/Mac. It can be, and has been, done.

Yes, illegally.  And it requires advance computer skills.

If that’s all you are planning to do with a computer...do yourself a favor while saving $1k in the process and get a PC.  Unbeknownst to most people, you can greatly reduce your chances of viral infection by simply not clicking on questionable links or downloading content that come from ambiguous sites/senders.

Yup...its that easy.

Friends/coworkers aren't questionable sources and if they end up giving your computer the electronic version of herpes, then at least you can trace it back to them and block them FOREVER.

As for porn, why not ask your friends/coworkers for them.  I mean they are already sending you juicy emails...porn is no different.  If their computers don't crash then rest assure, yours won't either.

BAM...problems be gone!!! see how easy that was.  Any other computer issues I can help you with while saving you THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of dollars in the process?

Well, since you're still replying, I'd say, you've been owned.  I used to be an I.T. until I found out it doesn't pay enough to deal with the stress of a crappy OS like Winblows that needs constant supervision. Of course,my wife still works in I.T. and she's very thankful that Microsoft still makes sh!tty operating systems...othe rwise, she'd be out of a job if the company ever found out about Macs.

whaoo.. I got a warning that this topic has been over 120 days and to consider if I want to reply, lol...

But, I'm going to bring it out of the graveyard anyway. It's funny how this thread was made in 2010 but it's still relevant even now in 2018. PC/laptops aesthetically are pretty much on par with apple computers now, yet apple products are still more expensive just because of brand "Apple".

I totally forgot about this post. I still have my macbook from 2010 and it still works. the downside is that it isnt as fast as i would like it to be. i have upgraded to a pc recently for a pretty cheap price. dont use it much except if i need to do major typing or shopping. lets see how long this new pc last.
