This took me by surprise because I haven't been tracking my progress as I kept up with my routine and diet. I haven't been working as hard as I wanted it was difficult to feel the changes in me. But I got dressed for a conference and everyone was telling me I lost a lot of weight! So I had to weigh myself this morning and so far, I've lost a total of 100 pounds!! It took a long time to reach this day but I am finally here! Sometimes, I feel like quitting because weight loss is taking too long but then I tell myself that just a little more and you'll be under 200 and after that you'll be at your weight loss goal! I hope this photo will inspire everyone to stick to their goals!

Here's another update. I began a daily exercise routine, incooperating cardio and strength training, alternating days, reduced my blood sugar medication, which causes weight gain, at the end of spring of 2015, when my demanding school schedule came to an end. Not before long, I started having knee pain and had to take it easy. At that point, I only played badminton and diet. I can see now, how great I look in clothes. I suffered many set backs in 2014. It is just a little over year since I had my emergency appendectomy. I really had to not sweat for about 3 months for my incisions to close up completely. And then I suffered a sprained knee from exercising, in December and had to take another 3 months off. But here's my progress, still taking it day by day.
Now & Then

I know losing the extra pounds is way healthier and out beats everything!
I just don't like the excess skin and losing my black booty. :-\
I'm very proud of my progress; -35 lbs now, since May! Woo hoo!
Congrats... like sinny mentioned, you should think about strength training and then adding endurance training. Adding a bit of muscle to the body will help you burn additional fat. Endurance training will help maintain muscle.
-
Great job! Keep it up. O0
-
Congrats!
I know about the bu.tt thing. Some of us just aren't blessed that way. Strange though 'cause I've gotten it grabbed a few times in the past so I'll never understand that.
-
Congrats Yubnag! Keep it up. Like a few mentioned in here strength training.

Yubnag, no need to post pictures til you've reached your desired weight.

Why would they ridicule you? 35 lbs is quite the accomplishment . You should be proud and show it off...I mean not to rub it in other people's face, but just to let people see your accomplishment .

I know I would if I was to lose 35 lbs.

Awesome O0 Keep it up! I would LOVE it if I can drop 35 by the end of the year....
-
35lbs is a GREAT accomplishment . I lost around 34lbs within 9months and I was super duper happy. My motivation, health, and energy was really different. Since this year I've gained 22 of that 35lbs i loss. ::)

is this venting or is this bragging?

As a famous woman once said, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
The people who may poke fun at you because of your weight could neither understand nor know what it's like to struggle in your shoes. These people don't see every drop of blood, sweat, and tears of hard work because they're trolls who have nothing better to do; that will always be the inevitable. These low-lives can never take what you've accomplished thus far from you.
These very same people would never post their pictures online because they know the moment they do they'll be hacked to pieces and disappear faster than Jimmy Hoffa's remains (hence why they never show their cowardly faces while asking for others).
It is often true that the way we see the world is how we truly see ourselves. Just some food for thought.

Take the photos but wait until you get to the weight you are proud of then do a before and after.
I know, I say that but I probably would never do that. LOL. I always forget to take the photos.

GReat progress! I wish I was as motivated to accomplish a major weight loss like this.
As for pictures, I say take it to motivate yourself, but it's up to you to post it up publicly.

Now I'm tempted too. Maybe when I lose another 10lbs or bulk up a bit more. O0
-
LOL. When I was going through my own weight loss success story, I lost my black booty too. All that walking and jogging took it away. And even though I gained some weight back, the booty never returned. :-\ At least the boobies didn't disappear. That would have been worst.
Congrats on every pound you've taken off. Once its gone, you realize how awful it was to carry all that excessive unwanted weight before. Keep going!

Great JOb. ::) ::) ::) ::) You loss plenty of lbs and I congratulate you. Hope you lose some more pounds. Keep us posted.
-
As far as health-wise, do you feel any different besides looking different?
-
Thanks peachy and sweetguy!! Sweetguy, thanks for your well wishes and I'll keep you all posted! It's one small step at a time!
Gemini, I can't mention enough about how much control I've got of my diabetes. I've dropped my glucose count by many numbers, from a daily average of 250-320 (glucose level should always be below 100) to a daily average of 180. Now, that may all seem confusing and still troubling but for being diabetic, that puts me only 60 units away from having normal blood sugar. So yes, I feel different and very proud of my management of my disease! ;D
In terms of energy and strength, I'm just like everyone else, on days that I'm not active, I feel lazy and tired. :P
This just crossing the the threshold to better health and a better quality of life, my journey will be continuous. :)
-
I'm proud of you. You are too young to be living as you were. Keep up the great job!
-
Thanks for sharing your pix with us. How do you do it?
Well, frankly, first and foremost, when you want something enough, you'll find a way to accomplish it. ;D
And yes, it took me a long time to reach this level (5 years of yo-yo weight loss) but everything I've gained and learned along the way is well worth the wait. I finally found success after putting my body through extreme dieting by juicing for at least 3 times a day for my meals and snacked on nuts and berries. Now, I know, I took a risk here, being diabetic (diabetics need food to control blood sugar) I was concern but my mother always told me that I have too much fat, that I won't die or faint from a deprivation of food, and even went as far as mentioning that if I was stranded somewhere without food, I will not die easily (mother dearest ;D). But since my juice was a combo of fruit and veggies, I was getting my allotted sugar, so I brush my fears aside and stuck to this juice diet. I lost 25 pounds in a month and then lost the remaining 10 pounds from solely eating properly (after I stop juicing) and exercise.
I used to spend countless hours doing half-assed workout in the gym, so I changed that routine too. Now, I do moderate-intense cardio (depending on my level of exhaustion on that day) and (light weight and repetitious) weight lifting for 1 hour (at most 1.5 hour), for at least 4 days a week.
Then one day, I came upon a candid picture of my full body (I was never comfortable getting my full body photographed) and I just decided to put on that leopard dress to do a before and after picture and boy, I was in so much amazement!! I was more amazed at how well my plan worked as opposed to how much I've lost! People guessed the numbers of pounds I've lost to be 50-70 lbs but honestly, I only lost 35 lbs. It was the inches that was shedding, hence, fat being lost! And yes, I am very proud! :D
-
I'm proud of you. You are too young to be living as you were. Keep up the great job!
Thank you, that means a lot! I am very young to be living like I did before. Everyone has her issue, mine has to do with weight and health. If people can quit their drugs, I can quit mine too! ;D
-
WOW and WOW!! I don't know how you can do it. I have a hard time even losing 5 pounds. Your pictures and story is very inspiring to those who are struggling to lose weight. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I found that after losing a quantity of weight, weight loss becomes easy. I can easily lose 3-5 pounds a week now but that's unhealthy. So I shoot to lose 2 lbs a week to work it into a lifestyle instead of a quick fix.
-
I think you're still a very beautiful lady regardless of your weight but I'm glad that found the strenght and determination to shed some pounds.
Thank you! I've always loved myself despite of my weight but more importantly was that I needed to get my health in check. That was the thrive!
-
Yubnag, you said you were juicing. Does that mean you stopped eating meals completely and replaced it with a cup or so of a juice blend? What about now? I find it do hard to give up eating. I know when I went through my first round of weight loss I was always thinking about food. It ran through my mind like a girl who was lovesick with the boy next door. ;D
Any good juice recipes? My sister bought a magic bullet a few months back. I'm thinking it'll become my best friend.

Yes, I did give up for solid meals completely for 1 week, only! Lol! It's really difficult to go on not eating. So after the first week, I ate 1 meal, once a week, but it was a small meal 'cause I was completely self conscious. That really soothed my temptation. After a month, my juicer broke and I returned to eating again. And when I did, I know I had to make it a life change, not just a diet. After 4 months, I was slipping off my track, my diet wasn't as good as I had wanted to be but I still kept off the weight 'cause of exercising.
Dear, you need a juicer, not a blender. My Jack Lelanne juicer came with a whole recipe book for breakfast, lunch, and energizing juice but I haven't tried any recipes yet. I still enjoy my simple and affordable juice of green apple, carrots, and celery. :)
-
I love juicing! I make my own blends and do not follow recipes.

Yubnag, thanks for sharing! I've heard a lot about juicing and want to try it, but haven't yet due to many reasons. Ideally, for my height, I should be just around 115 - 120 lbs., but I am 50 pounds over that range. I have lost weight in the past by just eating healthy with no exercise, but have gained most of it back. Like you -- and most women in here-- I've struggled with weight lose for a long time now and I agree with you that it has to be a lifestyle change, not just "dieting" off and on. Anyway, I've been feeling sluggish lately and hate looking at photos of myself. I am tired all the time because of my weight..I remember being more energetic and just feeling better about myself when I did not have so much excess weight on me...looking at your photos and your journey, I am ready to revamp my eating habits and lifestyle again. Thanks for that boost of inspiration! :)

250-320 is a very dangerous level. Good to see your progress, hope you get it down to 100.

wow yubnag!!! you are an inspriration. my brothers and i just started doing Biggest Loser last week and so I am watching what I eat and the calories that I consume. it's amazing to see that I was eating over 2x as much food as I should be eating to fuel my body. and I've noticed that since I started working out, my mood swings aren't as bad and my temper is more even. diet and exercise = healthier mind and body!
Keep up the good work and keep us updated on your progress!

I'll keep you guys posted on my progress, right now, it's kind of slow 'cause I hardly make time for working out anymore, being that I'm planing a wedding, managing a LDR, and doing school part time! But I'm trying to adjust to 5AM workouts 'cause that's when I do have time! I sleep around 9:30is- 10 so, I become restless about 5AM anyway!
What are some strategies you two are working with?

Oh, congrats on the wedding! O0 LDRs are hard!
I am using an app called MyFitnessPal to track my caloric intake and exercise. I go to the gym and started cycling last week. I am really enjoying the cycling class and buring a lot of calories doing that so I plan to go 3 times a week. Just exercising and watching my food portions for now. :)

I'm glad the fitness app is helping you! I have the same app but I don't use it 'cause I often forget about it, so I just stopped using it all together. Small portion is a great key to weight loss! Thanks for sharing!

I’m proud of you for committing yourself to this. It’s a hard road ahead, but be strong and don’t fall for temptations. I’m 5’1 and use to be 160 lbs. Luckily for me I was forced to change my lifestyle. I had to start all over again after having my daughter, but my goal is to get back to my pre-baby body.
I just wanted to share what I’m doing. I’ve done P90X and Insanity, but that was before I had my daughter. After giving birth I found that those workouts were just so harsh on my body and I found it difficult to keep up so I was really slacking and doing it all wrong. So a friend told me about “tone it up” and I’m loving it. The routines aren’t as harsh on the body but they’re effective at the same time. I’ve been doing the workout videos for a few week now, along with running and watching what I eat and can see and feel the difference. I just wanted to share it with you gals if you’re looking for something new or different.
but check out the link to see if it can help, they have some youtube videos too. Good luck.

yubnag, how is your progress? I've started my weight loss journey recently and have so far kept up with at least 30 minutes of walking or cardio daily and eating portioned meals and snacks with balanced carbs, protein, vegetables and fats. I haven't loss any weight yet, but I am definitely feeling better and not as tired anymore. Plus my metabolism has increased just from eating small portioned meals every two hours. I am really hoping to keep this up and lose 20 lbs by J4. I would love to hear about your progress!

That is great! The 30-min of daily cardio is a definitely an energy booster! The diet seems sensible too. May I suggest that you intensify your workout if you're not seeing the results you want. My brother and his wife run the trail at a local park, it's about 5 miles and they can't even see the results they want. Losing the weight is very hard, thus, I shifted my focus to building muscles and burning fat. I may not see the number drop but I'm slimming down and feeling great!
As for the month of May, I had to help plan and coordinate my brother's wedding and reception so with the lack of rest, I haven't worked out for 2 weeks. And with all the feasting, my diet isn't sensible either! LOL! Truth be told, this is how I'm doing with my weight loss. LOL! But I'm getting on it again, starting tomorrow! This time of the year is most challenging for me because of all the birthdays we have in this season, it's worse than the holidays! LOL!
I do wish you well and keep us posted!

good job lady. keep up the good work
Thank you Miles!

AWESOME! I am so proud of you. Keep it up. Don't ever allow anyone tell you otherwise. Please keep us posted, pictures etc.

Thanks for the update. Yes, walking alone is not going to cut it, so I'm planning on a routine of switching back and forth between walking and cardio. Have to put more focus on other parts of my body, such as my belly so I really plan intense ab workouts. May I ask, what is your muscle building routine? Do you use weights?
-

Yes, I do weights; I work on the weight machines at the gym. I rarely use free weights 'cause that's too much stress on my joints, IDK why. :)
-
Speaking of focusing on your ab, do incline power walk, it works your lower abs like crazy, along with your upper abs too! This is how to reduced my potbelly! ;D I love doing incline walks 'cause it's great cardio and great for toning leg muscles! And do back exercises too, it also helps with toning your abs!!

Great job, Yubnag! :) I know what you mean about the eating during this time. LOL My family has either a Grad or birthday party every weekend until the end of summer. :idiot2:
-
awesome job! I lost almost over 20 lbs in almost 2 years by just eating right and cutting down on meat. My hubby and I just started power walking. Our goal is to walk 400 or more by end of september. So far so good. We have been walking 3.2 miles per day during weekdays and 6.4 or more miles per day on the weekends.
-
Looking great. I would hope that this influences everyone to stay in shape and eat healthier foods.

walking is cardio. You need to alternate between cardio and muscle fitness. you can switch up your cardio as well... try swimming and then bike.. but be intense in what ever you do... if your gonna walk, walk fast. if your running time it so you can watch your progress....bu t the simplest way you can control your weight with out doing to much excersize is PORTION CONTROL. less calories in then you use and you loose inches.... I saw it right before my eyes when my wife was pregnant with both my boys. it was amazing. Good luck to you.stop eating rice and empty carbs.

Yes, I already know about portion control :) I've been doing that for a while and I know it works. I am also aware about not eating rice and cutting back on carbs.

Carbs are essential... Learn about what is GOOD and BAD Carbs. I.E. Brown Rice, red potato, quinoa, wheat bread... Same goes for GOOD and BAD Fats......

how much can you bench press? HOw much do you weight?
Here is mine. Max is 225lbs 6 reps.
Weight about 161 lbs.
My laos friend weights at 148 lbs and benched at 275 lbs like 6, 7 times.

I enjoy the incline bench with dumb-bells. I can clean about 3 reps with 95lb bells. I'm around 149-151lbs
For straight bar, I can clean about 3 reps on the incline bench at about 270lbs (4x45 2x25lb plates).
It's cool to know "max's" and stuff but it is all meaningless if your form and/or technique stinks. I see guys bench and use their backs, curls on the preacher bar with their ass up.....
Don't get my max's twisted... I like clean technique, full range reps.

People who arch their backs upward is chating themselves. I see many white folks do it alot. I know they can't handle their max, but are willing to anyways even if their form sucks. I don't focus too much on form. Only on those exercises that will injured you like bending backs, dead lift, military, and others. For me, I felt most strongest at doing the monkey bars and it really give me more strength than the regular machine pull ups.
Post a vid of your workouts. Would like to see them.

taken on july 4. this is my back progression.

nice back.......... ...i like to pull up as well but i don't have space for a monkey bar at home.

Since the holidays, I've been lazy and haven't been intense with my exercise but I'm trying to catch up now. This is my progress for those interested!
I've been working on my pot belly! I finally got off the elyptical and started power walking on the treadmill for about a month now! With a sensible healthy diet with lots of greens and low in fat, this is what I've managed! What do you guys think?

not bad..keep it up!!...i see progress in you!...cut eating into portions and how to combine what type of food together when you eat will help too..it'll be hard at first but later down the road you'll see more the bigger picture

It's already 3/4 of the year but it's been a very successful year! Weight loss has always been a struggling journey but I, apparently killed it this year! I want to give thanks to all the wonderful family and friends that believed in me and pushed me to meet new boundaries! I'm discovering new grounds about myself, physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I do not wish to be a skinny woman; I only wish to be healthy, happy, and inspirational!

Hello PH, just coming by to update my thread. I look forward to many feedbacks and looking forward to hearing about everyone's health pursuit!!! Blessed be!!!
-
What is your diet like?
Don't get me wrong, I changed my diet to low carbs and lost weight without having to work out since what you eat is more important than working out! You know how they say there's no point in working out if ppl are going to eat processed food, fast food, sodas, etc.
However, you're doing a great job! Keep it up.
-
I eat a little of everything, but no processed food or deep fried food. I keep my diet low carb, yes, I still eat rice about a cup a day. I also eat low glycemic foods; I do small portions too. It's a transition but it gets easier every day. And thank you.
-
Still looking good, keep at it and stay motivated
I myself have hit a setback last year too, hurt my Achilles and was outta commish for about two months... It was hard to do any running and then I hurt my thumb which made it hard to lift weights..
Keep at it!
-
Oh yeah same here! If you look in my ridge now it's just fruits and veggies
-
I'm glad you're back in commission thePoster!! Keep it up and thanks the encouragement!!
-
Thanks for the motivation.... I am in the same situation as you....Let's change our eating styles...this is 2015!

Thank you for the inspiration Yubnag. :)

I'll be very careful about what you said. Diet and exercise are both important parts to a healthy lifestyle. Everybody is different and what works for one person may not work for another.
Bottom line is carbs are required for exercise, otherwise one would have little to no endurance in any active motor function of the body. Without carbs and without exercise, its basically starving your muscles. Losing weight can also be accomplished by fasting, but its not what most people will be willing to do.
