Like anything else, it needs good foundation otherwise it will crumble like a stack of cards. A relationship without a strong foundation is like a tree with shallow roots. It might look healthy on the surface but the first storm can knock it down.

That is just throwing away the key so that this dangerous individual is permanently removed from society. Unless certain people running the judiciary might believe in afterlife, after death or reincarnation of souls in a sense to give out multiple lifetimes of punishment. The latter is definitely more interesting.
