Title: Breaking up with an ex
Post by: ladylily on March 06, 2019, 03:51:50 PM
When you break up with an ex and noticed that he's selling your $800 Christmas gift on ebay, should you be sad or happy?

Happy.

Why? You already gave it to him. You wouldn't want it back anyway. So, it's a happy thing that he turns it into something he can use without carrying the memories of you two together.

True. But some things are priceless and you just don't give it up so easily.

I guess it wasn't priceless after all this time.

$888 christmas gift!!!

Can you be my girlfriend?  I only got "merry christmas" cards!

anyways, a gift is a gift...the sentimental value equals $0 and 0 love...but he's got $800.  when the relationship is over, nothing else matters!

I suppose it shouldn't matter. It makes me wonder if I should sell the $900 earrings that I got for Christmas on ebay too...

Okay. But how long would a normal person wait before they sell it? the day after the breakup?

The answer is going to vary from individual to individual and case to case so other words, depends...

I've seen similar situations where it's kinda like this.......and all I gotta say is, you gave it to him.  and it's his now.  he can do whatever his little heart want to it.  what you or this gal needs to do is, MOVE ON....forget him and his gift/s

the second you guys broke up....20 years after breakup.  doesn't matter.  it's his......(going back up to my comments above.)

Well,  now you know how much you meant to him.  :2funny:

What if the ex got back together with you (after a few days of the breakup) and yet you noticed that he hasn't removed the bid off of ebay....

It is not as bad as them having their ex photoshoot in a suitcase and he claims to have forgotten the codes but yet, kept the suitcase around.

If you broke up with your partner = they are an ex.

If you broke up with your ex, that means you got together.

In life, if a decision is made...honor it.  Stop changing your mind and circling about it.

Move on, move forward.

anyways...the material stuff is just stuff.  It's the memory, the intention, the feeling that you linger onto when you associated it with that material stuff.

Best of luck and try to move forward.

You're right. It's not healthy to think too much about it since you can't change their mind.  However, you could learn from it and know that it's the last time you're buying a gift that expensive for that person.

That means that he has come back to collect more things to sell on ebay. Sad bu true for some.  ;D

I guess he must be pretty desperate for cash then.

I would like to think that whether a gift is $2.00 or $2,000.00, there shouldn't be any strings attached. What they do with it, in any time, after a breakup is their choice. I'm rather indifferent and hope they would feel the same.

I hope you don't give them your mother's wedding ring then!
Title: Re: Breaking up with an ex

My mother doesn't have a wedding ring so I couldn't even if I wanted to. If someone was going to give me gifts along with some fine prints then might as well call it what it is: a transaction.

So there is no such thing as a free lunch then?

Call it what you may. Bottom line is, don't give expensive gifts if you're going to attach terms and conditions. It is rather unfair and selfish to the receiving party who may or may not know your intentions; either give it away (yes, give it away cus that's what gifts are) or don't give it at all or buy something incredibly cheap (I highly recommend a kit kat, that way you'll have a piece and they have a piece not to mention how air thin the crispy wafer is with just about the right amount of chocolate and crunch.. it's truly the epitome of a candy bar!) hmm.. candy bar is good.. I must be tired. It's late. I'm going to bed.

You're right. If the husband bought the wife a brand new sports car and after the divorce, she gives the new car as a gift to her new boyfriend, the husband should just be happy for them.

quite the truth...gift, time and virginity...once you give it away, you can never have it back! ha!

Virginity...lo l.  I think we should be extra careful about giving that one away.

oddly enough, there are girls who just want to lose their virginity so they don't have to deal with the awkwardness.  They'd give it to strangers that they just met before going back to date the guy they like.

Somehow I find it hard to swallow but I believe this statement.

If I was the husband, I would send the boyfriend an extra set of keys, too, so they both could drive it any time it's convenient for them.

Why do I get an inkling that we're not talking about cars anymore?

That's absurd.
To you, it might be, but I've known some girls who admitted that's what they did, just to get the experience so they won't look so bad when they give it to their bf.  I'm not a girl so I'll never understand this mentality, but some girls have it.

That's a pity. You shouldn't give your virginity away to some random person. Now, it would be even more awkward to have to explain why you did it.

I don't think girls will explain it.  They probably just wanted to feel more comfortable with their lover instead of having it be their first time and having it be awkward.
