No doubt about it. What else is there to do this time of year anyway, right?

I have a way of determining the water temperatures there and know quite well which night they will be running.

I've given up on group  smelting and seining though. I prefer my little dip net by the streams. I get cleaner smelts that way.

i have 20ft, maybe 25 ft sein net (forgot the size)
it's pretty good man
drop pretty low on the rocky sand
so they can't run and escape

the only thing is
sometimes you get them big waves
water goes down your nuts

you know what i mean

I tried seining twice and that was enough for me. Not because of the waves but because the net keeps dragging you back into the deep. Hate that!

But seines catch sandy smelts. People take hours to clean them before cooking. Not fun.

Our temperature here will be in the mid-60s this Sunday.

I think the smelts will run earlier this year.

I don't even consider it a "battle" when it comes to hmgFRAUD due to his welll established fraudulent rep and behaviors. But more like other PH members pointing at his EPIC FAILs and laughing at it..Kind of like watching those EPIC FAILURE videos on YouTube...for example this "comment" from another PH member:

Hunt and fish?  What happens when you hunting and fishing in racist Wisconsin if zombie apocalypse happens?  You'll get shot.

Super salty

Dude been salty as hell

This "Super salty" dude said, he "always like the underdog" and the "patriot" were NOT the "underdog" during that Superbowl so what's why he's so "salty" for being the LOSER that he is:

I always like the underdog

Quote
I pick my Packers this year
And he just can’t stand when i went 13-3

EVEN GOES AS FAR AS TO VOID MY PICK

His "PICK' was "VOID" for being too stupid to follow simple instructions but it wasn't by me, I just remind him of it:

this one will just be voided.

Nothing's wrong with basement, it's the "trash" that occupies it that's the problem especially the ones that take advantage of their "mommy" by leeching off and playing COD 24/7 with zero contribution to the household due to "lazy"..like so  ;D:

Im lazy

True. It is safe to ask first. Or else just let them be.

If we didn't put them in that terrible situation in the first place, we aren't liable for anything they get into. We are not obligated to help them just because we are there.

State officials say the spirit of Gov. Tim Walz's “stay at home” order is that people not travel outside their communites for recreation, even if the letter of the law doesn’t say that.

That means don’t get on the highway and drive across the state or the county to go fishing, hunting, hiking or mushroom picking.

Our DNR tells me just now that such message has not come from the DNR itself.

We are still allowed to go fish anywhere in the state under the same terms we used to be able to last year. Same with smelting. The DNR just can’t guarantee the runs.

Looks like I’m goin’.

How long of a dip net pole do you need??
And where along the river? Share google map?
Title: Re: REPORTER, you smelting this year???
Post by: Reporter on April 03, 2020, 09:01:59 AM
There are retractable handles that shorten to 4’ and extend to 6’ or 7’or so. Shortened for transport; extended for netting. There are also longer ones that are solid one piece handle. 6’ or 7’ is good enough. Too long is too awkward. Get them early at Marine General in Duluth. They run out every spring for late comers.

Lester River on the edge of town is the favorite. Right at the mouth where it meets Lake Suprior.

You go right into the water. It’s knee level you submerge in; don’t go deeper than that or you’ll  lose your balance then. The smelts run up to the shallows more.

Nothing to fear. It’s easy. I’ve seen short Asian women dip very well and safely there.

That's because they don't want you and your wife to spend a whole week free at their place. One should not be a burden to someone else when one is trying to get one's own fun somewhere.

Consider getting your own motel for a weekend for smelting.

Both duluth and superior is closed to outsider
Only “local residents” that lives in the county

Duluth officials Friday said they will allow “local residents” access to beaches and other waterfront areas but only if people are keeping their social distance from each other.

“Smelting is traditionally combined with large gatherings that do not conform with the CDC’s social distancing guidelines,” Duluth Parks and Recreation Manager Jessica Peterson said in a statement. “Area locals may continue to smelt, but they must practice social distancing and respect standard beach closure times of 10 p.m. during the smelt run.”

That DNR probably get pay $12/hour

All stream are public even on private land (i know from trout fishing)

City officials say only LOCAL RESIDENTS can smelt
They probably going be out there checking ID
And controlling access points
