folks like this kind of annoys me... i like splitting everything equally... we all work, why shouldn't we all pitch in the same amount... to me, i'm not sure if they're trying to boast about their wealth or if they're genuinely sincere people but unless you're jeff bezos or bill gates... don't always pick up the tab for everything...
-
I just feel like I should, especially if I was the one who invited others and wanted to hang out. I pick the restaurant, so why would I make them pay? I think its a nice gesture.

Yes, it's a nice gesture, and I don't see anything wrong with it. And we all work, so why would it be a problem if we spit or pay for the whole thing. They don't have to Bill Gates or Jeff bezos, if they know that they can afford spending the money, I don't see anything wrong with it. Just because someone offers to pay for the bill doesn't necessarily mean that they are boasting about their wealth. There are people who do nice things because they really do want to do nice things. That's why you shouldn't be so quick to judge someone's action.

Who are these family members? I want them to pay for me every time, too!
Hey, I got lots of bills.

You will have to give more details and examples for us to see what exactly you’re referring to.
But as is, it could get annoying if, 1) they are making snarky remarks about it, thus boasting, 2) view that you are economically insufficient and can’t afford it.
-
If they are wealthy enough and genuinely looking out for their extended family members in paying for the bills then all the more power to them. As long as they don’t harp on it afterwards saying to the effect that you’re eating off their hands or something.
-
What’s really annoying is if everybody can afford to chip in, but someone doesn’t, and he’s always the one that takes the most and does the least.
-
Will never say no to a free meal ;D

I wish family members would just show gratitude that someone gave their time to have a family meal with you, and they even paid for it. Gratitude goes a long way.
-
hmmm...are they complaining?
I used to pick up the tab...wait, I used to treat.
Now I'm broke and I don't treat. So how come those other family who are now wealthy rich, don't do that? I mean they did a few times, but now, they don't. By that I don't even get an invite.

It's a nice gesture. Once is okay and bearable. But if you do it too much, it becomes annoying, partly because we don't feel like imposing our burdens on them.
We all can afford a little meal here and there, and we don't need someone to pay for our meals every time we go out with them.
We can take care of ourselves.
