Wasn't gonna share my story but since you made a thread......mi ght as way share my thought.
Over the past weekend, I went to look at a co-worker acreage, private land.  Not sure how much land but enough for 1 or 2 hunters.  Was planning on doing some squirrel hunting again this year.  After spend a few hours scouting the place, I've decided not to go ahead with my hunting again this year.  And with the recent news of a hmong hunter killed down in iowa.......nah, forget it.  I'll just stick to fishing.  If y'all do go, stay safe.

Can't live your life in fear! Enjoy the things you want to do and if you die doing it, it's worth it. However, I get the sense that you really don't enjoy hunting that much. Ha!

You’re not wrong about that.

I've seen this photo on Facebook. I thought it's to show off how big of a buck this young hunter got.

I don't sleep in places that don't have protections. Even when I put out a tent, I make sure it's surrounded by strong trees so that cars won't accidentally run onto the tent while I'm sleeping. If there are no trees, I put my truck by my tent on the side facing the trail or road.

Awesome precautionary measures you're taking but if you were meant to die, death will find you just like in your example a tree branch could come crashing down on you while inside your tent. One thing is for sure, while I too take precautionary measures I don't live in fear of anything.

True. When the time comes, even a little crap can pull the local Taseng's daughter right into the deep river bank.

DON’T HUNT WITHOUT A PARTNER
Title: Re: I used to hunt and this is a horrible and sad

You know, I've been wanting a bear hunting partner. Wanna join me this to next week up north? My other partner tagged his hunt and is no longer going for the season. So, I've had to brave the deep woods these last two weeks. I would like a partner to go with me for that.

This is a land of predators. The only things that are there are bears, wolves, coyotes, and mountain lions. Very few deer are around and they are only mule deer, not white tails.  Sure, porcupines, too, but that's pretty much it.

Let me know if you are interested. We can go just during day-times and just two to three times each week until one of us gets one. Your non-resident license is about $231.00. But I have foods and other things we can use.

@reporter

I only been in one black bear hunt
That was a long time ago
We used my friend’s dog that he has been training
Really easy, found it in less than 45 minutes

Bear meat is just a bit nasty for me
If they been eating trash, their meat taste kinda like trash ;D

I know. But he offered, so I thought I'd throw in the invitation. I'm prepared to go alone and to take excuses from him.

Lotteries are for the other permits; my permit is in the no-quota zones, so you can buy a permit today and hunt tomorrow. Just can't buy and hunt on the same day.

Season's good through Oct. 18th.

We're indeed in black bear territory. But this is not anywhere near the city and there's no trash or any compost or dump site nearby. All natural vegetations and whatever meats the bears can kill and bugs or grubs they can dig up from barks, dirt holes, etc. They love especially honey and I already heard one tearing down a bark a week ago, so I think it was going after a honeycomb.

We can't use dogs to chase them out. We have to bait them with candies or bacons, syrups, and things of the sort.

Wow, you guys can bait them?  Not here in California.

Otherwise, I would go feed them deer for fun and to attract a big colony of deer to a centralized location to get a mass reproduction going and doing thus would attracts their predators like them mountain lions as they feed on "MY" deer.  Then when them deers are gone, them lions will look for humans to hunt.

That is my master plan.   :2funny:

We can bait bears, but we cannot bait deer or squirrels, turkeys or pheasants and doves. We can use decoys on those.

There are very few deer left in our bear country. The coyotes and wolves have taken most of them. If you are deer hunting there, you’ll be disappointed. You won’t see any.

I know you've already tried to help him in that area (being "honest") but some are just beyond help so all you'll get is more "excuses" and "lies" as other neutral PH members have pointed out about him...Oh well, his loss.. ;D

Illegal to sell. But the hunter who tags one can keep that bear's parts.

My partner and I processed his bear in the woods. He showed me how big the gall bladder was. I put it in a plastic bag for him. But I laid it on the side while we took care of the rest of the bear.

We then dragged the bear to the truck about 1 mile away, headed to camp, and forgot about the gall bladder. When we couldn't find it anywhere, I asked if he ever picked it up from where I had put it. He said no. I said I never took it with us, either. So, at 11:30 p.m. we walked back one mile into the woods to fetch it. I was so scared it might have been picked up by come coyote or raccoon. But do these animals care for the gall bladder as we humans do? Sounded like they didn't. After all, it was still there when I finally got back to the spot.

I didn't know anything about the medical quality of the penis, balls, or the ileal conduit (urine pouch), so I swung them far into the woods. Back home, people asked for the pouch. But I didn't drive two hours back just for that.

That's the best part about hunting, you not only get to hunt but also get a nice workout out of it such as hiking, tracking and of course dragging ..

I shot a nice size deer in Zone D5 in California and it finally died in a gorge so it took two a us a while to carry it up back to our truck..great workout because it seemed like we used every muscle and part of our bodies..

Once back at camp, we hung it on a tree, skin it and used some of the meat to make deer soup with all the herbs we brought home and it tasted so delicious. That was our reward for all the work...O0

My bear and deer hunting team consists mostly of Yangs. So, they always give me the hearts...

Oh, yeah. Dragging deer or bears up and down hills is quite a workout. The distance, the rougher terrains, the steeper slopes, and usually later in the day when one's a bit more exhausted or low in energy...Gotta love the fun or else the meat isn't worth all that workout.
