Mamdani’s East Harlem grocery store site already got $25M in NYC taxpayer funds years ago — setting stage for $55M boondoggle
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s plan to open a $30 million, city-owned grocery store in East Harlem is aimed for a site that was already approved for a $25 million public upgrade years ago — setting the stage for a bizarre boondoggle that has perplexed local business leaders, The Post has learned.

La Marqueta, the food-focused market between East 111th and East 119th streets under the elevated Metro North tracks on Park Avenue, is where Mamdani last month proposed to open a government-owned supermarket. Unlike neighboring stores, the new grocer would be able to offer rock-bottom prices because it wouldn’t pay rent or taxes.

That same site, however, already won approval from the city’s Economic Development Corporation nearly a decade ago for a $25 million project to redevelop La Marqueta — bringing the total price tag of the market’s proposed makeover to a staggering $55 million, city officials confirmed.

Gov't funded grocery store? This would be a money pit for tax payers... I bet they'll never arrest anyone from stealing there just like they don't prosecute subway ticket turnstile jumpers. It's free... The tax payers will fork up extra in taxes to make up the difference.

He's 79 and eats lots of Big Mac  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

But I understand why they want our service men to be at certain weight/height ratio. I believed that should be a requirement for cops also.

The company I worked for has a yearly health assessment and you have to passed 3 of the 5 criteria (Blood sugar, Blood pressure, Cholesterol ratio (good to bad), BMI (waist measurement) and Triglyceride or be charged an after tax fee of $200/mnth for healthcare coverage.

Ted Cruz put Mazie Hirono in her place and taught her a little about history...

Mazie Hirono:
"There's absolutely no question that racial discrimination existed in our country and in many place in many places people would argue that it still does. And so we had all kinds of ways to keep black people from voting. We had poll taxes. We had literate literacy tests. We had I, I, I, I think they, uh, some places even required them to count how many jelly beans were in a jar. All kinds of ways to keep black people from voting. Of course she's arguing about the 'Save America Act' and the redistricting shut down in VA.

Ted Cruz wasn't going to let her just spewed things without knowing history...

Cruz: Mr. Chamberlain, when when Senator Hirono says we had pole taxes, I want to ask you, who "we" is and in particular, what party was it that implemented poll taxes in the South?
Chamberlain: I mean, I don't want to necessarily speak in every single case, but I'm pretty confident it was mostly the Democrats.

Uh, and what party was it that put literacy tests in, in place in the South?
Same answer. Mostly the Democrats.

And what party was it that had tests like how many jelly beans are in a bottle?
The Democrats.

You know, this is textbook Democrat fragility. Hirono tries to slam the Supreme Court's recent ruling against racial gerrymandered maps as racist itself by acting like minorities can't win elections anymore without skin color engineering. But then Cruz expertly hits her with the receipts by pointing out that the Democrat party has been built on racial discrimination for its entire history. slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, poll taxes, literacy tests, and the KKK as their enforcement arm.

Republicans, the Party of Lincoln, passed the 13th, 14th, and 15th and led to the fight for civil rights. By the way, the Democrats voted overwhelmingly against the Civil Rights Act and the 19th Amendment which gave voting rights to all American - women and every race. All the while the Democrats resisted every step of the way. The same people who invented these race-based power plays now scream racism, the second course enforced colorblind district. It's once again the soft bigotry of low expectations, assuming that minority voters need rigged maps instead of competing on ideas, which is why black and Hispanic support for Republicans keeps rising because Americans have seen through all of this woke DEI nonsense and are done being divided by race for Democrat advantage.

Cruz: The Republican party was literally founded to oppose slavery. We came into existence because slavery was a grotesque evil. And it was President Lincoln, the first Republican president, who signed the Emancipation Pro uh proclamation, who won the Civil War, and that resulted in the freeing of the slaves and the passage of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. The Democrats for the entire history of their party have been a party based on racial discrimination . They affirmatively embrace it. They support it. The Democrats are fond of telling this story that is, and I wish I could find a kinder way to say it, a flatout lie. That without discriminating based on race, that no African-Americans will be elected and no Hispanics will be elected.

You know, say what you want about Cruz, but moments like this are where he shines because he's absolutely right. The Republican Party was founded in the 1850s specifically to stop the spread of slavery, which was Democrats core institution. Lincoln ended it and Democrats seceded to preserve it. Then rolled out black codes and Jim Crow to maintain control. Today, it's just rebranded as racial gerrymandering, DEI, and packing minorities into safe blue districts to waste their votes and protect power elsewhere. I mean, this isn't Martin Luther King's content of their character vision. It's the exact opposite. Democrats remain obsessed with sorting Americans by race because they know that it's one of the only ways left that they have a chance of staying in charge. And the party switch myth that they always love to push is just pure projection. As the parties realigned on principles, Republicans embraced limited government and equal opportunity. And MAGA's growing minority support proves it because real results beat race baiting every single time.

The Democrats are now clutching their pearls that seats drawn to elect liberal Democrats in the South are going to go away. You may get black Republicans instead. Indeed, in Tennessee, they're freaking out that a liberal white guy who's a Democrat is likely going to lose his seat to an African-American woman who's a Republican. And they say that's horrible racial oppression. Which party has egregiously abused gerrymandering for decades? Both parties are guilty of. But which, who, who has been the worst offender? And in particular, take New England. How many Republicans are elected from all of New England in the House of Representative s?
I think the answer to that is zero.

Zero. They've drawn every district in a naked gerrymander. And yet they're very upset that their illegal pursuit of power has now been stopped by the Supreme Court that is enforcing the Constitution and prohibiting the racial gerrymandering and discrimination their party is built on.

So, what did Hirono have to say about what Cruz did?
I feel personally aggrieved to sit here and to be lectured by my colleague from Texas.

Uh... You deserved to be lectured on because you're ignorant of history. So, Hirono threw the victim card out instead of addressing what Cruz says... She knows he's 100% correct.

like The Odyssey got serious backlash from the both the right & left wing alike. Their main issue point to the fictional female character, Helena of Troy, was cast by black actress aka Zendaya who played as Mary Jane in Spider-Man: No way Home. Another issue is that the transgender actress/actor aka Elliot Page gonna play as Achilles the G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Times) in Greek Mythology.
The man who was responsible for this to happen is no other than the director aka Christopher Nolan. He has gone "Woke" that the public says.

Hollyweird is becoming a joke... I'm all for casting difference races for roles but be original. Don't just take a well known story, legend, myth, etc etc and then stick difference race into the characters to appeased the 'mentally ill' people.

What are they going to do next... get a White/Black person to play Genghis Khan, a African person to play Jesus, a White person to play Black Panther (oops, they already did that and it bomb!!!)... How about a trans to play Buddha or a pedo to play Muhammad (never mind he was a pedo - slept with 9yrs old Aisha).  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

I don't have an English teacher lecturing us anything about the Greek Mythology. What I learned in four years of high school were Schindler's List, Men and Mice, Macbeth, Beowulf, William Shakespeare, Excalibur (King Arthur and The Knight of Round Table).

What!!!

General Discussion / Hyena Harris endorses Karen Bass...
« on: May 05, 2026, 09:44:46 AM »
for mayor of LA... she claimed Karen have done a great job on reducing homeless and crimes.
Unsheltered homelessness did decrease but shelter homelessness increased - so, they moved the outside homeless to inside and call it working? Yes, homicide is the lowest since 2013 in 2025, report claimed. However, crime rate have steadily decline since 1992 with a uptick during the pandemic (2020-2022), post pandemic continued to see a decreasing violent crime rate. So, this has nothing to do with Karen Bass and her policies. Proactive policing, community initiatives, and other systemic shifts caused crime to steadily decrease for decades...

That’s the oil transport route.

What happened to the uranium issue
that started the war?

It was uranium and plutonian... but as soon as US started bombing, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. I mean, it's the best strategy that Iran has against the US attack - forced the world to suffer to stop the US attacks.

IAEA estimates, Iran possesses a substantial stockpile of near-weapon-grade 60% enriched uranium—roughly 440 pounds as of March 2026—which can be quickly elevated to weapons-grade 90% material within weeks. On 16 April 2021, Dr Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), announced on state television that Iran had begun enriching uranium to 60 per cent at the rate of 9 grams per hour, or about 1 kilogram every five days. So, why would Iran enriched uranium to 60% if their purpose is to not make weapon-grade uranium. Enriching uranium takes steps... it's not a one single step from 20%  to 90%.

So, I have had two lawnmowers in the past - each one lasted over 10yrs. The last mower I had, my nephew ran it over a rock and bent the drive shaft - I still used it for the rest of last year since rattling noise wasn't as bad and only does that when I disengaged the blade.

However, this year when I started it back up to prep for the summer... the rattling was way worst than last year without the blade engaged. It was very loud and the mower was shaking like crazy... I need to either repair it or replace it. Since, it's old and parts are probably hard to find, I opted for a new replacement.

I went online and ordered another Toro (model 21565) from Lowes for $750+, waited 2 weeks to get it. Put it together and started it but as soon as I disengaged the level, motor stop. I was like... WTH!!! Why did it stop? I thought only the blade is to stop but the motor keeps running. I thought something was wrong with this new mower. Went online to do some digging... Found out that only some models have the spin-stop or BBC (blade brake clutch) feature and majority of them don't. The spin-stop is a feature that allows you to disengage the blade but the motor still runs - so, you don't have to stop/start the mower every time you need to pick up an object or go over driveway, sidewalk, etc etc and don't want the blade to keep running.

Since, my two previous mowers had the spin-stop feature (I didn't buy them for that reason - just happened to get them like that), I thought all residential mower has that as standard. The new mower I bought didn't come with that feature. So glad, Lowes was good with in-store return even if bought online. And I didn't need all original packaging - only the box and as much gas as I can drain out of it.

Story short... I went and bought another Toro (model 21468) for $690+ that had the spin-stop feature at another store (Acme Tools) - the only place I can find within a 2hrs drive that had that model stocked.
