Home Improvement & Gardening / Basement DIY
« on: October 16, 2015, 09:06:00 PM »
Anyone finished a basement before?
I just bought a house that has an unfinished basement. It is insulated but it's not been wall up yet. Also, basement floor is bare concrete. I was thinking about using sheetrock that are moisture resistant but I'm not sure what to do with the floor. I've seen where people just stain the concrete, covered it with carpet, and use 2x4 and plywood to create the flooring. If you had finished a basement before, what did you do and how was it?

Cool!  Are you from southern that's why the tree survive?  If you from the north, I like to plan one.

Trust me... they will survive in the North. I know a co-worker that have about a dozen of them and he usually give me a few a years. Our temp here in the Winter can reach -10.

Debate Central / Re: DC vs. Marvel
« on: October 14, 2015, 10:55:38 PM »
So why ignore the most cosmic beings?  Because the argument becomes stupid.

Galactus eats worlds.  He can eat an infinite amount of Earths and create a big crisis for DC.  However, Superman can just go around punching Earths 1-616, and Galactus would starve.  But then, everyone dies.  So Death from DC wins.  But then we Marvel's Death too!  Now it is Death vs. Death.  And so on and so on....

All Galctus has to do is force Superman from yellow sun and light gravity... he's done.  O0

The math problem is easy to do but the question remain illogic. I wanna know if it's a rocky mountain or mountain slope.  :D

It could be mount pubic if you want  ;)

FACT: niam, txiv, koj, peb, kuv, etc. ARE all White Hmong words -- NOT Green Mong originally, or innately/inherently -- which the Green Mong have mimicked, copied, echoed, and used for 10-100+ years. But believe whatever you want.

You're so full of yourself... Did you somehow went back in time and record the original Hmong green and Hmong white language? No one knows the original Hmong language, let alone Green vs White. Don't make a fool of yourself...

Music Discussion / Can't figure title of this hmong song...
« on: December 06, 2014, 09:06:25 PM »
I was oversea and heard this song being played during one of the hmong new year in Thailand.

It's a female singer... and lyrics is about being married to a man that's not man enough or she's embarrassed because he's not like other normal hmong man.

I know it's not much but that's all I can remember...

Anyone have the faintest idea to what this song is?

Trivia Questions / Re: How high is the mountain?

6.75 miles.  I wrote this down, took it home, worked it out, took a picture of my work, but this morning I forgot to bring my phone to work.  Essentially, it's basic math.

Assuming:
1.5 m/h up hill
4.5 m/h down hill
6hour total trip
So let x equal the time it takes to go up the mountain
and y equal the time it takes to go back down the mountain
x + y = 6 hours

Getting our equations and finding the distance:
1.5 m/h * x h = distance to the top of the mountain
4.5m/h * y h = distance down

Assuming Jack took the same path up and down
1.5 m/h * x h = 4.5 m/h y * h

Solve for x and y and plug in the variables:
y = 3/x
x = 3y
x + y = 6 hours or 3y + y = 6 hours
y = 4/6 hours or 1.5 hours

4.5 m/h * y hours = distance
4.5 m/h * 1.5 hours = 6.75 miles

Correct!!! three unknown solved by three equations  :headbang: :hello2:

Trivia Questions / How high is the mountain?

It takes Jack 1.5 miles an hour to go up a mountain while going down the same path, he makes 4.5 miles an hour. Now, if the whole trip up and down the mountain takes him 6 hours, without resting or stopping, how many miles is it to the top of the mountain?

Debate Central / Re: Universal Healthcare
« on: February 07, 2014, 09:42:40 PM »
There are problems with "Obamacare," but universal healthcare is a good thing.

I was out with some friends and cousins, and the topic came up.  Surprisingly, they were all against universal healthcare.  Strangely enough, a good number of them worked in the medical field.  At first, I thought maybe they disagreed on it because of principle, smaller government.  However, as the discussion continued, it became apparent that they were simply misinformed.  I originally avoided the debate since I was the only dissenting view.  There was no need to engage in a debate with people I haven't seen in a long time.  Also, I was the more informed and the better debater, so it wouldn't even be fair.  But then, like good medical professionals, they noticed my broken finger...

They noticed my broken finger, but they didn't know that I broke it while I was abroad.  They were all guessing how much it cost me.  $500 to $5000.  It became a game.  When I told them it cost me less than $20,, they were shocked.  They then proceeded to try to find something wrong with the system, such as wait time, appointments, etc.  However, when I told them that I simply walked in, no appointment, 10 minute wait, got treated, got medication, a rehab schedule with a personal trainer, and follow-ups with the doctor, it really blew their minds.  All of their pre-conceptions about universal healthcare was wrong.

Granted, if I needed surgery, I might have needed to wait and pay more.  I am not sure about the wait, but I am pretty sure the cost would have been cheaper.

Virtually every country with universal healthcare laughs at the American system.  Although it is true that some of the best hospitals, doctors, medical techniques, etc. are in America, it doesn't mean much when people do not have access to it.

People should be mindful of facts vs. pre-conceptions.

Universal healthcare if run correctly is good... Hong Kong and Singapore for example. But the U.S. gov't healthcare will never be good. They can't even run a freakin website... how on earth are they going to run a universal healthcare system and make it good? ACA (aka ObamaCare) is welfare for health... It's never going to bring cost down. Where were you when you broke your finger and got it fix?
