Mathew 2:1-11 details the 3 visitors who followed a star to Jesus' place of birth:
...Then Herod called for a private meeting with the wise men, and he learned from them the time when the star first appeared. 8 Then he told them, “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him, too!”...
We read this like watching a movie. But I wonder if the Magi knew of Herod's intention.

Look at how God controlled Herod: Herod never even thought of sending guards with the visitors for that first search for the baby.

God ain't controlling Herod. Herod is afraid of being number #2 and his people are focusing on Jesus. The position as King was done right after the fall of Solomon. More Israelites turning away from God and they worship other Gods. So God decided to abolish that plan and create a new plan, Jesus.
