Faith & Beliefs / Re: The Official Prayer Request Thread
« on: March 31, 2011, 10:17:48 PM »
Dear Lord,

Thank you for this day and especially this opportunity to pray for our friends on PH. Thank you for your grace and your mercy. We pray and ask for your strength to guide us and help rid our troubles. Please keep everyone, including Slude, 3miao, and morninglory safe and well at health.

We pray that gracy, TAL, and the rest of us will see Your good intentions and follow in Your footsteps as you so desire - not our own. Forgive all of us should we have been very disobedient to You and Your Word. We pray for patience to study more of Your Scriptures in which You have left to give us hope.

We pray that morninglory will find a job closer to home and that she will find rest in You. We ask for these things as You see fit. I will pray again before bedtime. Thank You Lord. Amen.

Wedding Rituals & Customs / Re: "green lady"..niam tais ntsuab
« on: March 24, 2011, 04:39:24 PM »
Why do you guys keep calling it "niam tais ntsuab" or "green lady"?  The real term for it in Hmong is "niam txais ntsuab".  :)

i thought it's "ntxhais txais ntsuab" and such a tongue twister that it became "niam tais ntsuab"

niam tais is an elderly aunt, someone of your parents generation.
niam is mother or elderly woman figure.

the proper term is "ntxhais"

just sharing, correct me if i'm wrong.

a hmong word to describe a higher being is 'vaj'. vaj is 'fence', the gate-keeper. hence vaj tswv, vaj ntxwv, and vaj pov. i will name my son vaj __?

i think we know what is going to happen to gvp. know in your heart not your tongue.

Thank you Slude, you made my day by posting these.  Just trying to learn these is hard at a funeral because I lack the understanding of it.

someone & chuexiong- no need to thank. these are the 'gospels' of the hmong culture. they are free to anyone with the desire to learn about our culture. the words do not preach or promise of salvation or to follow a godly being but to only worship the ground that our parents walk on.

After reading this whole thing, it doesn't seem so much like a "nutshell" anymore...  sounds more like a book. LOL

lol. this is in a nutshell only and outlines the general procedures. if it's too much, then you need to attend a few weddings to understand the 'nutshell'. the details are more like a bible.

i'm re-listening again. every once a while, txiv xaiv is my reality when i'm too involved in my daily life and i forget to return home to mom's cooking and dad's lecturing.

word of advice, hug your mom and shake your dad's hand. when was the last time your remember the touch of your dad's hands or your mom's?
